Pens trade for 2 pick inspired

Created by: Hullsy09
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: May 23, 2022
Published: May 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I saw someone bring up the idea of pitt trading for the #2 pick and take Cooley, so I wanted to put a different spin on it with taking the other option (assuming wright goes 1).

This would be a great way for pitt to work towards their future while also creating cap space. And NJ gets their young impact player in Marino.

Note: idk if Slaf can play rw as well so I will just put him on the left, even though it would fit the lineup better if he could play rw

Also note: there are other RFAs I would sign but for the purpose of this I am only signing those who would play on the NHL team for game 1

Honestly don’t know if u have the pieces to move up to 2. Obviously Marino and ur 2022 1st would be involved, but Kapanen isn’t needed and I don’t see many other enticing pieces

Very rarely to any teams trade top 3 picks. In any sport. They are so valuable. I don’t know what the price would even be.

Definitely Marino, Probaly Poulin, the Pens 1st this year and maybe even acouple secondary pieces.

They have a value chart for every sport and draft picks that most GM’s follow to some degree. What each picks value is. U can just google it.

Very fair point, I guessed the the devs would like Kap, but if not we can go back to my other offer which was legare Marino 1st 1st 3rd. Is that one a bit better?

First off I would like to say this data is from 2011 and before and the league is very different from then.

As to your point that top 3 picks don’t get traded often, that is true, but not relevant as it is a known fact that NJD are open to trading the pick.

As for the values, say both of Pittsburgh’s first rounds are 21st, and their 3rd is ready 81st. Those 3 picks add up to 825, where the devils pick is 871. Surely by this logic my offer would be an overpay as Marino, legare, and Kapanen would far outweigh the difference of 46 pick value

Just don’t think there’s a deal to be made between these two teams for #2. If u wanna talk about a package including the pick for Guentzel, then we’re open ears

For starters, it would never happen, but we are already in fantasy land so why not dive in a bit further. Full disclosure guentzel is one of my favorite players of all time so this may be unfair.

zacha, severson, second pick for zucker guentzel and a 2nd?

Zacha seems like a player who needs a change of scenery.

If the pens are looking to remain a cup contender, they will need to bolster their RD especially if Sev leaves. Maybe this is a case of me not knowing enough about the devils , but wouldnt he walk when his deal is done? You guys have so much young talent on the back end and I believe there were rumours of him getting traded in past years.

Zucker would be a cap dump in many situations but I think he would be valuable to you guys. Since you have wayyyy more cap space than you need to retain all of your players, you will have some money to play with. Since he is on a 1 year deal you would be able to either let him walk or sign him at a more reasonable term and aav next year when you have a bunch of people to sign.

This is probably an overpay but the team who acquires the best player in a trade usually has to overpay. Especially in the case of Jake "part of the leadership group, consistent 40 goal scorer, top 10 winger in the nhl, one of the best playoff performers in the nhl, hockey IQ off the charts" Guentzel

I actually think that deal favors the Devils a lot. I think the deal most likely starts with 2OA and Holtz

In terms of value yes, but I was looking for players who can make immediate impact. Hextall said today they are trying to win another cup with this group, and if guentzel were to be traded then holtz wouldn’t be able fill his spot (yet! I do think holtz would play super well with Crosby in a couple years).

What would the return be for bratt, sev, and 2OA?

Nothing that you have. Guentzel wouldn’t be enough in my eyes to trade that package. Bratt is an untouchable at this point

Ok. I didn’t realize bratt was untouchable. I just remembered hearing something on 32 thoughts a while back about him potentially being offer sheeted I can’t really remember, Fridge and Marek made it seem like it wasn’t 100% the devs would be able to keep him but that was a while ago

If this fantasy land deal were to ever happen it would be something along the lines of Zacha +sev + 2OA for guentzel + more

If he hasn't been qualified he's an UFA.

He would be qualified, but for the sake of this ACGM I only signed the players who would play in the opening day lineup.

If you wanted to get super technical I would have to sign numerous AHL players but it just isn’t relevant for this exercise
