Maybe reduce it to just a 2nd. I don't think that's unreasonable value for a guy playing top 4 minutes with lots of PK time. He is also on a cheap deal. Maybe EDM isn't the best fit, but I think a 2nd rounder is fair.

Edmonton has no cap space and they have no need for Holl, with Ceci, Barrie and Bouchard all signed for next year.

Flyers want a little more especially since they are doing some retaining. The main problem isn’t the amount retained but it makes it so that they can’t retain on other guys so I think the Flyers want another piece to have more of a reason to accept

Brother, we thought so too. Dude has been one of our most consistent D especially in the playoffs (currently 7pts +8 in 11GP).

Could still make the trade work with or without the retention. Was mostly focusing on the value going either way.

He's 1st pairing this year and doing very well. He has anchored the Oilers defense corps into the 2nd round and quite possibly the third. What has Holl done?

The point is there will be a strong market for a cost-controlled forward who can play any position coming off a 51 point season

Oilers most likely reject. But with Ken Holland, he might accept that.
Stranger trades have happened with him in charge.

For the Arizona trade, adding the 4th isn't necessary if you're giving a decent prospect in Hirvonen.
