Next season v2

Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 26, 2022

Description
This is kinda just my template for next year at this point. I believe that Kassian is gone, most likely to a playoff team with a perception that they need to get tougher and the cap space to acquire him. My best guess is Dallas at this point but I can also see a team like Florida and maybe even Colorado wanting him. I also see a team like New Jersey looking to pick up Barrie's contract to help them produce more offense. The return for both players mentioned above would be solid defensive minded defenseman to play on the bottom pair for cheap. I think Broberg is the type of guy that is gonna get looks as well, but I don't think he is a full time NHLer until the following year (After Keith retires, and I don't think he retires after this season unless we win the cup).

I think that both Puljujarvi and Yamamoto are trade targets potentials for the Oilers. I can't come up with a dance partner at the moment. Same thing goes for Konovalev, Rodrigue, Bourgault, and Benson in the AHL. With the Fanti signing, I'm pretty sure one of the goalies moves unless Skinner is guaranteed in the NHL. Benson I think is done with the Oilers and will probably move on if he's not traded. Bourgault I just feel has the most trade value and is the most expendable prospect.

Kuzmenko can only be signed to that contract basically, and if the Oilers are interested in him I think they get him. He is a sniper that could play with either Draisaitl or McDavid (Kane being the sniper for the other one) that can put up big points in a top6 role. The rest of the players on this team is business as usual. The scratches can be any player Holland signs to be extras on the roster.

Siegenthaler is elite. he is not getting moved for a cap dump. add maybe Pulju and they would consider this

Jonas Siegenthaler is probably the best pure defender in the league. Not someone I would give up for Tyson Barrie.

Plus, Captain Nico and Siegs are best buds

Whoa whoa whoa! Since when was Siegenthaler elite? I agree he is good, but not elite! He had one good NHL season.. let’s see if he can repeat next year.

Even if you take that approach, he's still better than what's being offered here. Stay at home defender on a friendly contract will cost more than a cap dump.

Whoa whoa whoa! Let me stop you right there. Barrie is not a “cap dump”. He is a good offensive defence man that is playing way better since Woodcroft came in. Now, I believe they could get more for Siegenthaler, but Barrie is not a cap dump. I don’t see them going for a 4.5M right shot defence man, as they have Hamilton, Severson on the right side right now, and Hamilton can play the same role.

I don't see anywhere on his stats, basic or advanced, that supports either of these claims.
I can see he is good, having more Dzone starts than not and almost keeping his head above water for possession metrics.. but that's it.

He is a 4-6 Dman you task with giving you quality minutes 5v5 and on the PK.
So, someone reliable enough to be an NHL regular, but will never have any high-end offensive upside.

That's not 'elite', that's being above average at best.

Tell me you don't watch the Devils without telling my you don't watch the Devils.
As for the stats, these are the ones you couldn't find:

Dude's elite. Gonna be the Devils go to shutdown D over the next ten years.

That doesn’t make him elite. Yes he has had good analytics, but we need to see him play more before saying he is elite in my opinion. I think that word gets thrown around way too much in my opinion.

If a player is great defensively and top of the league, I call them elite. i dont call PPG players elite, but top players at each skill set are IMO

You're right, I don't watch the Devils and I typically do most my research on hockey reference.

For me, you're taking one of the weakest teams and taking probably the only bright spot on defense and labeling him 'elite'.
All I'm saying is it doesn't take long for you to stand out on a horrid team when everyone else in your position doesn't measure up that way.

So to me, Siegenthaler is an above average defensive D. Never said he was bad, just can't agree with you on the 'elite' part.

In every category, he is not at the top of the league. He is good defensively, but he is not elite in my opinion. I need to see more from him honestly. Anyway, we clearly disagree, so I hope you have a great one! I also hope we can talk more in the future!

If you translate Zach kassian into Czech it comes out Petr Mrazek. Contract is equally as bad
