what does a first round pick in either situation do? The Leafs are in win now mode not wait a few years for a first round pick. If Nylander is traded, it's for someone who is established.

Why wouldn't you take Wright? I don't think Montreal does that anyway

Look at Dubas, Cooley, ultra small speedy finesse American, checks all the boxes of the type of guys he likes.

You don't trade away the rights to a potential 1C, I also dont think Nylander gets you the #7 pick. Ottawa will not be ready to make a deep run within the next 2 years so they are better off taking a player they can control over 2 years of Nylander.

You are missing an under 25 top 6 center, of which you only really have one and he is worth waaaaay more than 1st OVA. Which is exactly what we need to move the 1st OVA pick.

The Habs than trade the Sens 1st Rd pick to get said player from another team.

The time for win now is over, rebuild time, Matthews is already considering which American team he likes best.

I'd love to see Wright pull a Lindros on the Habs.

I think he said that we wants to play for MTL, so it is unlikely. And if it did happen, a team would flood the habs with gifts like Lindros got Quebec

I remembered the 3 offers were "accepted " by the shady Nordics GM for Lindros all within hours of each other.

Phi.
NYR.
Tor.

Man I wanna search it up all the details, I can't remember off the top of my head, I know all had a goalie involved, Hextell, Breezer and Potvin.

The irony that he did ended up playing for the Rangers and Leafs afterall later in his career.

Mad return for Lindros:

Steve Duchesne
Peter Forsberg
Ron Hextall
Kerry Huffman
Mike Ricci
Chris Simon
Philadelphia's 1st round pick in 1993
Philadelphia's 1st round pick in 1994
$15 million

Actually ended up being a "meh" return, the Av's got lucky that Forsberg went HOF (he was a throw in prospect, nobody knew much about him at the time of the trade), or else the trade would have equaled Lindros for $15 million and leftover scraps.

Common leafs fan underestimating Nylander… He 1000% would get the #7 pick (I’m a habs fan btw)

Dubas can sign everyone to 4,5,6,7 year deals with NTC written in them from now on out, because he won't be the GM by 2025 anyhow. It'll be the next GMs problem. Lou taught him that.

I'm not a leafs fan.

Nylander doesn't get the 7 OA pick because Ottawa is rebuilding and Nylander will be gone by the time they are ready to make a run. Picking a player they will control for the next 7+ years is more valuable to Ottowa at this point then a really good 2 year rental.

I think Ottawa no longer need the pick but rather wants to transition to the Win now mode, so they would definitely trade the 7OA for a guy like Nylander, Fiala or Debrincat
