The old quantity for quality trade. Coyotes decline.

That’s not getting Chychrun, and you’re really overpaying Kyrou and Thomas. Just running it back and adding Chychrun isn’t going to be enough to top COL.

It’s not really quantity. 1st, Perunovich and Kostin and then Scandella and a 3rd for basically buying him out. That’s virtually 4 pieces.

Idk man, Avs will be worse next year than this year. Blues coming back with Krug and Chychrun is different than Leddy and Scandella.

What do you expect Thomas and Kyrou to make? I can tell you it’s over $6.5M per year at least

Heh. The Blues were without Krug, lost Binnington in game 3, and the series should have been tied after 6 games anyway. The Blues very much could have taken out Colorado with the current team.

I’m in the mindset that Blues either acquire a LD through trade someone like Chych or Provy. Or resign Leddy and keep Scandella for another run. For Avs, losing Manson and Kadri > Blues losing Leddy Scandella and Barbashev

Manson was quite annoyingly one of their top defensemen in the series.

Yup and he will not be signed back. No way they lock him up and get MacKinnon next off-season. Avs have so many team friendly contracts that if they don’t win this year I seriously doubt they contend for long. Val gets doubled, Kadri is gone, MacKinnon is nearly doubled, Lehkonen gets doubled what he makes with current retention, Kuemper is starting at $5M. They will be good still yes, but the reason they can be so deep is because these massive players make minimal money, but when they get paid they’ll have less to work with to disperse the talent.

So COL is going to be worse with natural improvements from Byram and Newhook, an influx of youth size and speed in the bottom 6 w/Meyers and Maltsev, and $24M in cap space. Sure tell yourself COL is going to be worse.

So think they can’t sign Manson? $24M in cap space this year. Compher and EJ come of the books when MacKinnon is due. And if the cap went up a $1M for next season no reason that doesn’t happen again. Is Burakovsky gone, almost assuredly, is Kadri gone probably but if your him do you take a bit of a discount to stay with a team that had your back when things went bad unlike his previous team? But people acting like Byram isn’t going to be a beast and Newhook isn’t going to be good just aren’t paying attention.

Never said worse, I think there is a clear advantage to having the forward group they have now. $24M in cap spent on 3 players when MacKinnon gets $12M, Val gets $5.5M and Kuemper gets $5M. You can’t tell me losing Kadri, Manson, Burakovsky isn’t detrimental right now to the Avs. Yes, Newhook and Byram will be dope, but right now losing big pieces is huge.

. Oh so you’re clairvoyant? Who says Binnington plays and they don’t lose in 5? Sure it went 6 but go look at the underlying metrics. STL was dominated, dominated 5v5. Look at the puck luck PDO? STL literally scored 4 goals in a series off of Avs stick including one that blew the stick up. They lost all 3 games at home, and they are 2-8 vs the Avs in the last 2 playoffs. How is that close?

Just acknowledged they will be sick, but as of right now, again, losing big pieces is more detrimental to the Avs. If Kadri takes a discount, I hope the Blues convince Thomas and Kyrou to sign for super cheap to load up for a cup window. Kadri won’t take under $7M if he is smart.

Say Binnington wins game 3 with how the game was going. 2-1 series lead for STL. Give Avs Game 4 whatever. Blues win 5. It’s 3-2 STL heading home. That’s a whole new ballgame. Pressure is on the Avs now. It’s how a series flows. Losing Binnington was huge. You can argue without Girard Avs were at a disadvantage. We didn’t have Krug since like Game 2 round 1. The point being made is it could have looked different if the right guys were in the game.

Your exact words “Avs will be worse next year than this”

Nichushkin comps are Coleman and Rust at $5 not $5.5. Fully expect them to try and bring Manson back and he said he wants to re-sign. Now personally I think there is a decent chance they move Girard in the off season in part to keep Manson. Are they running back this team, of course not. But Makar is still getting better too, I think it is unwise to think that the Avs are just going to come back to the pack.

I think if the Blues don’t play a bit of hard ball with both Kyrou and Thomas it would be a mistake. $7M is Landeskog money and neither have been anywhere close to as good as him, and they have a great gig in STL, neither has to be the man the team is real good.

Injuries are part of the game unfortunately. I can only imagine what Byram would have looked like with a whole season. Hell the Avs lost a game 7 playing a 3rd string goalie 2 yrs ago. It sucks but it doesn’t change the fact they lost.

Again missing the point. We lost, season is over, we look forward to next year. The point being made, is the series looks different going forward. And to your point maybe Avs can get a deal done with Manson. In my head tho looking ahead for you guys (I assume you’re an Avs fan). Is this in 2023-24, I’d actually like to know what you think of this because I think I am very reasonable with these numbers.
In 2023-24 I’ll give you $84M to work with:
Mac - $12M
Rant - $9.25M
Makar - $9M
Landy - $7M
Val - $5.5M
Girard - $5M
Kuemper - $5M
Toews - $4.1M
Lehkonen - $3.6M
Francouz - $2M
O’Connor - $1.05M
That’s 11 players you need 12 more and you got $25.5M to work with

Heh. You guys all have the same lines. And I said "could" - not "would" have taken them out. And I don't believe the word close was in my comment, so I'm not sure that's directed to.

Edit: Oh... and each team won the "underlying metrics" three times in the series. Let's get that right.

No you’re trying to extrapolate an off season 2 seasons away using values for contracts YOU assigned, not taking into account trades, prospects and 2 drafts.

I mean it seems like that’s the core in Colorado. You’ll have Newhook and Byram of course, plus other prospects and guys to round out the team, but these are very realistic. Val is offered 5.5 x 5, Lehkonen is offered 3.6 x 3, and Kuemper is offered 5 x 4. Then you gotta get MacKinnon so 12 x 8. That’s all I did. Only 4 guesses. If MacKinnon is the best player in the world he’ll be paid like one. The other signings are very cost effective and team friendly. Trades will happen yes, but looking at the core of the roster that’s what it looks like. You can trade Francouz or O’Connor, I don’t care but looking at those 5 forwards, 3 defense, and Kuemper. That’s the core of the team. Maybe Girard is gone, that’s the only one on the cusp.
