Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 30, 2022
Published: May 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I had made a roster similar to this and am reworking it, so ill try to give as much context as possible and bring up what changed. This roster is very much able to be improved still, but the changes should be in the right direction
*correction on the Tavares trade description, Kulikov did play 2 games in the playoffs, but was not in the lineup by their final game.*

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. 2022 6th round pick (VAN)
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (VAN)
VAN
  1. Kase, Ondrej [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
the Kase trade is the exact same as before but Vancouver is the recipient instead of Columbus as the wing depth is a bit thinner up north, so Vancouver would have more reason to do this trade.
2.
TOR
  1. 2023 5th round pick (BUF)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (BUF)
BUF
  1. Muzzin, Jake
Additional Details:
Again, same as previously, Muzzin gets shipped to Buffalo because it helps both teams cap situations; Leafs have an easier time staying under the maximum and buffalo has an easier time staying above the minimum without having to sign too many jeff skinner contracts that have terrible value.
3.
TOR
  1. 2023 6th round pick (NSH)
NSH
  1. Clifford, Kyle
Additional Details:
its a simple cap dump, a 6th isn't too expensive and Nashville gets a 13th forward in case of injury.
4.
TOR
  1. Gibson, John
  2. 2023 6th round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Mrázek, Petr
  2. Ovchinnikov, Dmitry
  3. Woll, Joseph
  4. 2023 3rd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
the Anaheim trade got a good amount of notice for being a terrible trade, so I added a 3rd and changed Scott for Woll and Anderson for Ovchinnikov. Mrazek sticks to the trade for cap reasons and because Anaheim can give him a final chance before he's officially useless. I do still think this trade can be made more fair and that Anaheim still isn't getting enough, but I think the improvements are in the right direction.
5.
TOR
  1. Georgiev, Alexandar [RFA Rights]
  2. 2024 4th round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Abramov, Mikhail
  2. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
Rangers will for sure need some extra center help come next season, so why not a mid six two-way center and a prospect. Also, Kerfoot could replace motte on the 4th line if the rangers can't get him back on contract.
6.
TOR
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (EDM)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (EDM)
  3. 2024 4th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Georgiev, Alexandar
  2. 2023 6th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
The Rangers and Edmonton trade is a 3 way trade, Edmonton is directly getting Georgiev, Leafs receive draft picks, and rangers receive kerf and Abramov
7.
MIN
  1. Tavares, John
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (EDM)
  3. 2023 5th round pick (TOR)
  4. 2024 3rd round pick (BUF)
  5. 2024 4th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
The Fiala trade was has been updated in a way that should make the salary situation less of a problem. Even with the 5.5 mil salary retain on Tavares' contract which was there previously, the cap hell that is Minnisota right now needed a bit more relief, and considering how good their defense already is, I think taking Kulikov (who wasn't even in their playoff roster) and more importantly his cap hit off the books for an extra pick should help as well. Also, though I thought previously that the 5.5 mil wouldn't be a problem for Seattle to retain considering the timing is damn near perfect and they have cap to spare, there was still requests to give more than a 5th and 6th, so I put a 4th and added a 5th just to be safe.
8.
TOR
  1. 2022 4th round pick (STL)
  2. 2023 5th round pick (STL)
STL
  1. Kulikov, Dmitry
Additional Details:
This is the only new trade. St. Louis needs improved depth defense and this is a great opportunity. Kulikov can likely fit right in the lineup and the contract isn't too terrible either.

The Anaheim ‘improvements’ are terrible

If you’re trading for Gibson you think he will solve your goaltending problems so you have to pay for that and you are doing everything here but that

Good thing Ducks fans on here aren’t making these trades it’s everyone else trying to trade for him so you tell me wink

Its just not an attractive package for the duck. I get the cap gymnastics with minny but it just seems like a bad fit there. They need more cap flexibility.

Minnesota instantly declines the Tavares trade. They don't need an 11 million dollar center with the cap situation

you do realize Kerfoot is a cap dump for the Rangers, right? And that they're in a serious cap crunch right now, right?

Don't see any of these trades as doable. Especially tavares and why would leafs want galcheyuk again? Not enough to get Gibson imo.

Winger depth is not exactly a problem for Vancouver. Which one out of: Miller (sometimes), Boeser, Garland, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Pearson does Kase beat out? He’s a depth forward

Wouldn't hate Kase for the right price, but Vancouver also doesn't have winger depth issues that's actually a strong suit of ours

a 3rd for a player who cant stay healthy?

no thanks, Vancouver can jus sign him after Toronto buys him out, or claim him when Toronto waives him.
