3 way deal

That's why it's a 3 way deal...
I get not reading the 3 page description under the trade, I don't even proof read those things after typing them, but the first sentence that is specifically separated from the explanation is that Marner goes to Buffalo for a couple prospects and picks (in which Buffalo overpays a bit) instead.

This deal assumes he can get something done with Buffalo, even an extension before the trade is possible if it helps get it done. I can see how him being a UFA is scary tho. On the out of prime part, an 8 year extension would see him until he's 34-35, which isn't Marleau type old, Tavares is 33 and still put up 65 and is far more impactful than people give him credit for, so in Marner's case he plays a style of hockey that isn't physically demanding and probably will help him hold up and not regress too early, either way you're getting prime Marner 6 of the 8 years

I was definitely thinking that when I first put it together, but you can't use a bad playoff performance to discredit a guy who was a selke finalist a year ago, constantly scraps 100 points, and is only 26. I also didn't see Rosen and value him as a first and thought that because of the sheer quantity of potential top 6 guys you have you might be more willing to move a couple to open up more space for them in the lineup

I know, but 2 things: first, in a theoretical world where the Leafs were not located in Toronto, I wanted to see if the value was there, and second, it was between him, Hart, Ullmark, and Markstrom. I'm a bonified Markstrom hater, Leafs aren't trading with Boston, and unless Hart's lawyer clutches up like a certain Bills player's did, that ain't happening either.

Leafs next year synopsis during English class
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jaok3</b></div><div>As a GM why are you giving a 3rd pairing guy more than a top pairing? I see this all the time how Bush gets less money than guys below him and get less ice-time. How does that make sense?</div></div>
I mentioned in the synopsis that the remaining cap can be used on the boosh deal (I don't blame you for not reading it). Also Edmundson probably needs less to stay around, so if anything you can just swap their deals for one another to solve the issue.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Way too much love for one year of Gourde. Minten is not an NHLer next October. Talbot gets more from some team. Too much $$$$ for Edmundson, and the Leafs really don't need a LHD.</div></div>
Honestly I thought Gourde was cheaper, but I wasn't sure what people valued Robertson at. I'm not sure what Edmundson would demand, I'd love him for cheaper if he doesn't demand too much, but for the small sample I've seen he's exactly the guy you want around in the playoffs, so I'd try and keep him here. Minten almost was an NHLer this season, so I'm hopeful he'll be ready by next year. Talbot is really a filler goalie, I'd take anyone who's a vet that can put up .900.

I agree 100% on Klingberg kicking the can, but the sheer disrespect that you're sending towards Kampf will not be accepted. For the rest of the trades, O'Reilly leaving sucks, but after that Florida series, and considering he's only getting older, he isn't a game breaker for this team. Brodie for picks is... ok I guess, like, he's worth it if you're replacing him with Hanifin, but I'd rather not lose Robertson, Brodie, and a 1st for Hanifin, a 2nd and 3rd, which is virtually what's happening here.

Pinto Beins
Seattle is giving up a player with a far higher ceiling for a guy with a barely higher floor? Seattle needs a long term 2c and I think Wright will fit that mold far more than Pinto. I think if you added a 1st, it might convince Ron that its a safer bid to take Pinto over Wright based entirely off of their potential floors, but Seattle still declines. Can't trade a 4th overall player before he gets a season.

SEA After These Trades
I doubt one of the most cap strapped teams is motivated to retain on a guy they aren't acquiring themselves, though there are definitely teams that would be up for it. I question whether Seattle is interested in Hanifin in the first place. He probably asks for more than he's worth and when you have to sign Beniers with the Sanderson contract in mind, it's not the best idea.

My NHL 24 Ratings
Not really anything I disagree with, but I doubt some of these guys get that much love. Evangelista probably gets stuck with a 78, Glass with 80, and Lauzon with 79. I agree they should be higher, but lets not forget this is EA sports, they're not really known for being generous on player ratings. Also I think Forsberg gets hit with an 87 or 88 just cuz chel devs are haters.

Isn't Michkov on contract in Russia for like 3 years? Other than that, this looks good. I think Gauthier and Foerster start on the 3rd line by the beginning of the season, though they might graduate to the 2nd line if Philly makes some trades or if they play well enough. I could also see a guy like Peterson being backup if they want to keep Ersson in the AHL one more season and wait until they have a bit better of a D-core/aren't tanking to call him up.

Finishing touches
Seattle really doesn't need to stockpile young assets with potential. They already have arguably a top 8-12 prospect pool if not better to go along with a sneakily young core, and giving up on an incredibly important forward asset who can play on any of your top 3 lines is probably not the best decision, not to mention the retention. Maybe a reunification with Duclair could work, especially if young guys are being given up for him I'm sure SJ would definitely be ok with a package that virtually turns Lorentz and a 5th into potentially 3 pretty solid prospects and a pick or so. You can also try and snipe Tatar in FA for a cheap 1 year deal without giving assets up.

seattle becomes a threat
I personally prefer to let Kartye play top line, not because I think Guentzel is worse, but because he won't cost nearly as much while also being far younger, allowing him to be a long term linemate of Beniers, and the gap between Kartye and Guentzel (though definitely large) is not large enough to convince me to buy into this current roster as an actual contender for the next few years, as well as having to lose assets in the process.
There's definitely holes in my argument, even I acknowledge them, but I ignored them mainly because I'm a Guentzel hater.

FrostHart to TOR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random_internet_guy_1967</b></div><div>Idk if anyone else in the comments mentioned this, but you state in the description how the value is split up, and though you acknowledge that Philly wins in value on the Liljegren/Seeler portion, you argue that the Frost portion completely makes up for it. Samsonov could be argued of being at similar value to Hart in trade value considering they're only 2 years apart in age, both are RFAs, and the only real important difference would be that Sammy's previous season was better (I get he played for a better team but that isn't too important as literally any goalie by that argument can be good with the Leafs, and a Saros trade would give up less assets).
This wouldn't be a problem if the trade was something like Sammy and a 3rd and a 4th for Hart (as the 2 years of age is something to get some return value on) but you then go on to strap a clear leafs trade loss to it in Liljegren for Seeler (though I appreciate you acknowledged it above). Now if the trade was Lily/Sammy for Hart/Seeler the Leafs would lose the trade, though I'll put biases aside and admit that, though I'd chant to fire Shanahan and Treliving immediately, it at least has some merit, so how does adding Nylander and Murray for Frost fit in? A Murray cap dump is the cost equivalent to losing a first, but even then Frost is not that valuable.
Edit: idk why half my argument got cut off I'll mention it in another comment</div></div>
Quickly reorganizing the trade arguments above, you can see the jump in value that's looked over
Hart < Nylander (No question here)
Frost = Liljegren (These guys are at similar points in their career and have similar ceilings and floors, so it comes down to positional preference in a trade, which though both center and RHD are in high demand, both teams need the defense)
Seeler < Sammy+Murray (The difference here is arguably the biggest, as it can be compared to Hart and Murray being traded for Seeler and a 4th. just completely out of the question)
Don't get me wrong, GM did do a good job of trading away surplus and for assets that both teams would understandably want, just the valuation is completely off.
I'm open to criticism of my valuations in the case that I might've fallen to my bias, but I do honestly doubt it, and if I did, it probably wasn't to the extent the average Leafs fan is used to.

Moves
Seattle doesn't really need to be doing this. With Kartye's playoff performance being as good as it was, and with a guy like Ryker Evans showing promise in the AHL, another bottom 4 offensive Dman is probably not the direction to go. Don't get me wrong, the value in a vacuum is there, this trade would definitely be of interest if Seattle didn't have Evans, but they do have him.
There might be a possibility of Calgary committing to a rebuild on the fly and follow up a Hanifin trade for by grabbing a young D to replace him, or Chicago wanting to move off a guy not in their long term plans like Athanasiou by retaining and adding to their D-core? Even swinging for a block buster with philly to bring Hart in to solve the goalie problem could be interesting, but idk.

The most likely comparable player is Morgan Reilly, who's making 7.5 mil. I personally think that it should definitely be less since Reilly was far more proven when receiving his deal, but I can understand if it's above 7. if it's in the 6.6 mil - 7 mil range, it'd be ideal.
