Why? What's so bad about it? Especially vs. All those other ones that have Toews, Kane and DBC traded?

Can you please find one justification why the Leafs would make this trade? Or the Devils for that matter?

At least for the TOR trade it's buying cap space...which TOR knows is expensive because it took the #13 OA pick just to shed 1 year of $6M. This is (2) years of $6M because Mrazek $3.8 + Murph $2.2M is $6M and then an additional $2.2M for two more year for a guy capable of playing top pair RHD. It's buying cap space...which is expensive. Go sign Campbell.

It's not buying cap space for the Leafs. Murray and Mrazek have very similar contracts so at best its a net even.

Leafs only owe 1.4 mill against the cap if they buy him out, for Knies and 2 firsts, that is crazy. it would never happen.

What? Murray who? Take another peak at the proposed trade. This is the literal definition of buying cap space.

Connor Murphy who is owed 4.4 million for the next 4 years. He is actually giving the Leafs more cap.

Maybe you need to take a closer look at the trade.

There's $2.2M being retained by the Hawks. SO...Murphy would only cost TOR $2.2M in cap space.

Which is barely a net positive considering Mrazek is about 3.5

But Mrazek sucks. You're dumping $3.8M in cap onto the Hawks and getting Murphy for $2.2M whom by the way is a very good Dman. Image replacing Ilya Lyubuskin with a FAR better Dman for $2.2M a year for FOUR more years.

You're also then paying you're top prospect and two first when you could just have Lybuskin who is a adequate replacement that will come in at around that dollar value. Toronto frankly doesn't need to do this and they will consider there future especially considering that Knies is close to being an NHL contributor.

The trade isn't 2 firsts, it's a small upgrade from the 2nd rd pick that is being returned. I put Knies as I saw his name used before in another trade for Murphy. The 23 First, 22 first and second swap, is for taking Mrazek and retaining on Murphy.

Toronto gets a great D for a discount for 4 years a second and dumps some needed Cap (I'm sure they will make other moves as well) Chicago gets a goalie, a prospect, a 23 first and an upgrade to the first round for 22. Seems pretty fair across the board considering most trades I see

I actually think from the Hawks perspective this is MORE than fair. The hard part from the TOR perspective is that the buyout isn't too bad. They'll likely go that route and hope Timmy develops into that RD piece they need.

When does the NTC kick in? I thought it was the same day as RFA filing? If that is the case then he can be traded as per his 2022 contract.

True, that may be Torontos best option, this is just another that gives them something substantial in return. If they buy him out Hawks sign him to league min contract and keep Murphy lol

It's not a Cap Dump from the Hawks perspective, it's a build faster. So why would they add?

From my perspective it's a dump the last big thing Stan Bowman did.

NJ has done these moves in the past... see PK Suban...

Are you one of those NJ fans that thinks DBC or Kane are worth a 2nd rd pick and some low end prospects? Seen that out here too.
