You may not agree with it, but Leafs management logic will be that the gap between Holl and Severson isn't great enough to justify such a trade. To them, this will basically mean giving away Nylander for Sharangovich and mid round picks.

That Toronto trade just gives me nightmares.
I get that you may not watch the Devils too often but replacing Sharangovich and Severson with Nylander and Zadorov actively makes the team worse.
Severson is only being moved of Devils can’t extend him, though recent chatter suggests that extension is looking likely.
Sharangovich is way too important to give up for a mere two years of Nylander, though Nylander currently is the better player.

Bernier’s likely done playing pro hockey so he’ll just go to LTIR for the year.
You’re at least 1m short on Bratt’s extension, and needs more term as well, he’s part of the long term core.

I don’t like the idea of having whomever Devils draft at #2 playing in the NHL in the 22-23 season. Between Wood, Zetterlund and Bastian there’ll be more than enough cover to remain competitive at wing next year.

Sure, but leafs management think Holl is good enough middle pairing defenceman. And Severson isn't a top pair defenceman. So the difference is not enough for them.
