Description
So we still have $12.6M in cap which I would potentially explore spending on a RHD who'd be willing to sign for one season and putting JBD back in Belleville for another year. Then we have $11.7M coming off the cap next summer with Brown, Hamonic, MDZ, Watson, Holden, and PHANEUF! That gives us a little over $24M to sign Debrincat, Stützle, Pinto and Zub. I'm guessing the 3 of them come in around $24M. Murray and BOBBY RYAN comes off the books the same summer we need to sign Sanderson. After that we're pretty maxed out and might need to make some choices as other guys come due but with guys like Kleven, Thomson, Boucher, Ostapchuk, Lodin... I'm not worried about that far down the road yet.

There is definitely some value there, but not quite enough to make CHI move on from Cat. Plus, Formenton and Gus don't really fit what CHI is looking for.

I would love to get DeBrincat, only thing that worries me is giving all this up just for him to take his $9 million qualifying offer and walk to free agency in 2024.

Oh for sure. No team would offer anything like that unless if he was willing to talk about a long term extension. That'd be a franchise destroying deal.

?????? You can talk all you want "willing to talk about a long extension". But getting a player to sign is the key. And since he's Hawk, Sens aren't talking about a extension till he a Senator

So a young middle six winger, a good goalie prospect, a 7th overall pick, and a potential top 5 pick for DeBrincat? No thanks.

I'd do it if the 2023 pick was top 10 protected.

Wouldn't be what id think CHI would take. I would be asking for more and different players in return.

Unless of course the Hawks gave us permission to talk extension with him ... which they would if they wanted to make this trade...

But this always bring up the mostly unrealistic scenario where the Hawks tell their star player. "Hey we don't want to extend you, so, and we want your ass outta here. So talk to Ottawa, and hurry up and sign an extension with them so you can be traded."
"But hey, if you can't come to an agreement with the Sens, you're welcome back to the Hawk family."

Yep, want to be a fly on the wall when that discussion takes place.

But it's not a secret, the team knows the GM is listening to offers on any player not nailed to the roster with a NTC. While it doesn't happen to many of them, every player knows this is a potential situation they find themselves in. I think it shows a star player more respect to try and let him land with a team he wants to be with rather than moving him somewhere he could get stuck for two seasons before reaching UFA.
I'm not even considering possibility of this deal, I was more just tinkering to see if it could work with the cap long term.
