Neely and Sweeney should have been fired too

Created by: Jamesy
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2022
Published: Jun. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Bruins have been lying to themselves since 2019. This core is not good enough to win a Stanley Cup. We had our chance and now the time has passed, it's time to get rid of our veterans to bring in valuable draft picks and prospects. Keep McAvoy, let Bergeron walk, trade anyone we can get value for. Trade for bad contracts to bring in more assets, and maybe hire a GM who can draft competently. Obviously most of the trade values are off by a little bit, but these are the types of moves I would like to see the Bruins make.

1.
BOS
  1. Bourgault, Xavier
  2. Foegele, Warren
  3. Kassian, Zack
  4. 2022 1st round pick (EDM)
  5. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Pastrnak, David
Additional Details:
Pasta has 1 year left on his contract so the Bruins need to sell now because his value is as high as it will ever be. I feel like Edmonton will panic after being swept and give up 2 first rounders and a first round prospect, Bruins take on Kassian and Foegele to make salaries work, and can flip both. players at the deadline for more assets.
2.
BOS
  1. Turcotte, Alex
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (LAK)
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
2023 2nd turns into a 1st rounder if the Kings make it to the conference finals.
LAK
  1. Marchand, Brad ($2,125,000 retained)
Additional Details:
The talent in Turcotte is undeniable, but he has had problems with concussions and the amount of forward depth on the Kings. A fresh start could be what he needs and the Kings are looking for veterans to help win now, without giving up too much of the future.
3.
BOS
  1. Tucker, Tyler
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (STL)
STL
  1. Reilly, Mike ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Blues are in a cap crunch and need to replace Leddy, Reilly at 1.5 mil is a decent replacement.
4.
BOS
  1. 2022 1st round pick (NSH)
NSH
  1. Hall, Taylor
Additional Details:
This is assuming Forsberg does not re-sign in Nashville, Hall isn't as good as Filip, but his $6 mil cap hit for three years will undoubtedly be much better value than the mega contract Forsberg gets in UFA.
5.
BOS
  1. 2023 4th round pick (VGK)
VGK
  1. Nosek, Tomas
Additional Details:
Trade at TDL for a draft pick.
6.
BOS
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (MIN)
MIN
  1. Smith, Craig ($1,550,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Trade at TDL for a draft pick
7.
BOS
  1. Johnson, Erik
  2. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Haula, Erik
Additional Details:
Take on a bad contract and give Colorado scoring depth for a pick probably in the 30's
8.
BOS
  1. Dach, Kirby [RFA Rights]
CHI
  1. DeBrusk, Jake
  2. Grzelcyk, Matt
  3. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Chicago has apparently been linked to trading Dach away, and based on how aggressive they were last offseason I wouldn't be surprised if they try to get a couple players who can help now while also getting a draft pick for the future as well.

Don't think March or Hall are getting moved anytime soon. If Sweeney does go the quick retool route then ya all the guys on expiring deals are going to be moved, not so sure on the guys with term though. And ima be honest, Sweeney's drafting the past 3 drafts have been pretty competent, especially his 2021 draft. We'll see how he does this year though.

From an outside perspective, Bruins core wasn't the problem. Choosing to rebuild some time soon would definitely be wicked smaht. But, if they wanted to, I think the Bruins could use this post season as a guide for a quick retool and another run next year, as long as they aren't committing too much to Bergeron or any other aging players. Plus, BOS has some pretty promising prospects that should be able to slot in nicely next season on ELC's and cap space to reach into free agency a bit if needed. Either way, BOS probably has the pieces to pull of a fairly quick turnaround on a rebuild or retool.

Also, I don't think that will get you Dach. Realistically, the value is probably there or close. But we aren't ready to move on from our 2019 3rd overall pick yet.

Agreed with the title but the rest went sideways especially the first two sentences.

I fully expect the Bruins to re-sign Bergeron and trade more futures to try and win next season, so I don't expect our offseason to look anything like this, but if you look at how many assets the Bruins can acquire, I think this is the route the front office should take. But even though Sweeneys draft in 2021 looked much better it doesn't change the fact that McAvoy, Carlo and Swayman have been his only picks that have made an impact.

Boston has less than $3 million in cap space, and thats without Bergeron signed, they have to unload a lot of contracts to be able to sign Bergeron, and add more to the group.

What about this team looks like a Stanley Cup contender? We only have one scoring line and only have $2.5 million in cap space, our best center is Charlie Coyle. If we want to bring Bergeron back we have to clear up cap space which means trading away all of our overpaid depth guys. Tell me what makes you believe the Bruins can win a Stanley Cup next season.

Clearing some cap space isn't that hard. All depends on if Bergeron returns. If he does and the plan is to give another shot, they would first need to add a 2C. Marchand, McAvoy and Grzelcyk missing time at the start of the season will be challenging. It's not impossible but not that easy either. Or we could also start the rebuild.

My issue was more about the "lying since 2019 and core hasn't been good enough" which is false because they had a decent chance the past three years mostly because of the core. Blame the GM/President/Owners but not the best players of the team.

I am blaming the front office, not the players, I guess I should have clarified I think getting Hall las year was a good move, but it was mainly this years moves. Giving up the first and signing Lindholm for 8 years was the front office lying to themselves.

Hopefully the new coach will actually play the young guys knocking on the door for a change and not force them out the lineup for any little mistake, then to end up eventually being traded to recoup any kind of value they had to avoid being stuck with the next zach senyshyn. We'll see though. Sweeney's next coach will be his jobs make or break.

Oh wow. I could've sworn there was a lot more cap space last time i looked at bostons cap breakdown. That is a lot trickier than i thought.
