Since Holtz & Slafkovsky aren't even in the lineup, and Mercer is a huge star in the making, I wouldn't do that Debrinket trade. Keep the Younger stars and let them develop.

I was huge on Holtz, not sure why it is taking him so long to flourish like his draft year peers Mercer, Stuzle, Raymond, Lundell, Laf

Oof! We usually agree on a lot of things, but I definitely don't think people need to "get over it". Evander Kane would be banned from the league if Bettman and the other NHL execs had any real morals and/or some balls. Also, outside of Mercer I'm not really feeling that Cat trade. Gritsyuk is a very interesting player but being a russian changes some perspective on his trade value fairly significantly. Johnsson and Bernier just plug some holes short term. Smith is fine, still has plenty of time to turn things around, but he isn't of any particular interest to CHI. Plus we are overloaded with LHD. Also, the 2023 1st is fine but who knows what kind of draft position it will be if NJD plans on taking a big step next season. Which if they are going after Cat and Soucy, they are probably shooting for the playoffs.

absolutely no team outside of edm will pay evander kane 7mil a year. every team in the league had the option to get him at a 6mil cap hit because his contract was front loaded, for better then free, SJS would have given up something to take him. Everyone knew he was a good player, and nothing has changed about his on ice play. so why would we sign him for 7 mil now?
