Cooley Drafted by Pittsburgh

Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 9, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
During their first off-season as owners, Fenway Sports Group makes a splash by trading for the 2nd overall pick in the draft and picking local star talent Logan Cooley. NHL ready Cooley most likely starts at the University of Minnesota and gets the call up after his collegiate season is over. By drafting Cooley, Fenway Sports Groups optimizes Crosby's 3 year window while also preparing for the future. It's a PR slam dunk as Crosby takes Cooley under his wing to wear the "C" next. Malkin and Letang are also re-signed, keeping the core intact while having Cooley ready to begin the next core. The best of both worlds as they say.

After that there are some touch ups to the roster:
- Bringing back Aston-Reese to form the shut down line they had with him, Blueger and McGinn.
- Pierre-Oliver Joseph finally starts up in the NHL, a spot created by trading away Pettersson.
- Eric Comrie is signed to back up Jarry. Penguins elect to go younger here rather than bring back DeSmith.
- Drew O'Connor becomes a regular in the lineup with Puustinen available as well. Puustinen could come into the lineup frequently to give veteran Carter a rest.

Believe Jersey say no thanks. They know where this pick is in draft for two picks that could be anywhere. Petersson is nice but not a game changer, Poulin again is nice but untested.

I actually think I may never make an ACGM again because it won’t top this one

Probably an underpay for 2OA but who cares we just add a couple pieces in reality

NJD would decline. Pettersson was probably a possibility before we acquired Siegenthaler. Poulin is of little interest.

Thank you! I read an article about NJ possibly being open to trading #2 overall and it created this idea lol.

They are definitely open to trading it based on numerous reports

Obviously it is unlikely we get it because we don’t have the High end quality but I could see us overpaying in quantity just to get Cooley - he really is perfect for us

Would New Jersey accept a first a second and Jarry? Pens could then turn around and sign Fleury. Don't think the current deal you have is feasible, but really like the idea
