Today will go down as the day Hextall ruined the Penguins

I'm guessing it was either move Pettersson as a dump or Marino and get some value back. They needed to clear space for Petry.

Its about the next two years only. Who's the better player for the next two years. After that we'll be trying to get top 5 picks.

I think move Rutta to the spot next to Petry. Have Ruhwedel on the third pair plus who's ever currently playing better between POJ and Smith would be fine

JT trade during season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>Vancouver can find a team willing to pay for him. When you have guys like Savard, Foligno, and Chiarot getting first round picks as a rental at the deadline, I have no doubt in my mind that we will get a good package for Miller. Just because you want him, doesn’t make him free. What pieces could Vancouver possible want from Pittsburgh other than Marino and the 2023 first round pick</div></div>
Ok but Giroux also only got 1st 3rd and Owen Tippett. So Pens definitely have a similar package to that. Thats also why I was wondering what other teams are interested and what type of packages are the Pens competing against. All I'm saying is the longer they wait the lower value JT has. Is Van definitely trying to move him this offseason?

lets suppose VAN is out of a playoff position in January though and still have JT. You're just gonna let him walk in free agency next year?

Yeah I definitely feel like this would be stealing but hey its Arizona. Maybe AZ doesn't love any of the top three, there could definitely be better packages people offer but idk? Theres a scenario where they could get another 1st at the trade deadline for Jarry and maybe a second and a good prospect for Zucker.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensman69</b></div><div>I’d take a guess and say Letang gets 9m max and if that’s what we have to pay him for the next 3-4 years to keep our cup window open and be able to contend than I’d say we do it. I don’t know how else we could replace a guy like that in one season and expect to still be on the same track and be in contention. It’s just highly unlikely. Now if he’s asking for 9.5-10m that’s a whole different animal.</div></div>
yeah I really think they'll have a hard time competing without Letang. I'd say best case scenario they sign him 8.5x4. I like Kadri as an option at center, would also love Malkin at 3c with Carter at wing. They haven't gelled that well together but maybe a full year would change things. Its gonna be a fun offseason though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensman69</b></div><div>I agree, I would hope in that scenario we stay as far away from that Klingberg offer as possible but I have a strong feeling we would be all over it. Also yes I get what you’re saying but this team doesn’t have a lot of time left to experiment and hope that things work and situations pan out right. The Barrie experiment is a handful to digest and isn’t worth the gamble. I’d much rather go out and get a guy that has proven he can play top line minutes and will be a production machine on that 1D spot. Hell, you could look into a Burns retained, DeAngelo offer sheet, Myers retained (would need another FA dman signing to help even out the strength of that top 4), etc</div></div>
Yeah thats why i think Letang just has them over a barrel as well like i could see a 9.5x3 year deal and not hate it. I like the DeAngelo idea could definitely be interesting.

trade jarry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensman69</b></div><div>Simple, you probably can’t replace him. Hate to say it but Letang needs to be one of the main focal points of our off season. I don’t think pens fans understand just how valuable he is to this team. Bite the bullet now and sign him to his 8x4 or whatever he wants that doesn’t hit the 9m territory. If that somehow ends up not being the case, we probably end up overpaying Klingberg in all honesty. Or possibly trade for Petry but only if there’s retained involved and not our first rounder. I can tell you right now, Hextall knows enough about his dmen, he ain’t touching Barrie.</div></div>
I 100% agree that Letang should be focal point of the offseason and is probably most valuable player (sans Crosby) on the pens. But there exists a scenario where he doesn't end up signing with them. I would not touch Klingberg or any other RD UFA so was looking at cheap options that might be viable. The hope here would be Dumo bounces back in a contract year and picks up some of slack Barrie creates. Then hope Matheson Barrie and Marino are good enough to fill the letang hole via committee.

what's the difference between a cap move and a salary dump? not saying its 1 to 1 between Petterson and Gostisbehere but if I'm Hextall and i got offered a 4th for Petterson I'm taking it. Allows you so much more flexibility in free agency. Pens have a surplus of LD and I would really like to see POJ in the lineup consistently

its a salary dump and detroit knows that. i'd almost argue that detroit would want a pick too or rights to Kap as well. Look at the deals Arizona was making last year 2 seconds and Ladd for nothing in return. A second and Ghost for nothing back

Eh not sure just wanted to see what the team would look like. I wouldn't hate moving Carter to wing and then signing Malkin at around 5mil per year. Would mean not re-signing Rakell might have to move another contract also.
