For starters, "the big two" aren't for sale. Second, it would take a hell of a lot more than Saros and Jeannot to get either one. Which roster wise I don't think Nashville even has unless it's Josi. Then on Saros, if Nashville is willing to move him, they likely aren't looking to win now. You keep young stud goalies. And if they are willing to, theyd be looking to get picks and prospects. If two firsts and a goalie prospect (we can argue till we are blue in the face on Rodrigues value, but the fact is goalie prospects are lottery tickets. One day theyre bad one day their Jordan Binnington) isnt enough then Edmonton is out all day long.
No, McDavid and Draisaitl aren't for sale. Neither are Saros or Jeannot. But the whole point of this site is discussing hypotheticals. Maybe the SO of one of those players sleeps with the zamboni driver, and they're so distraught they request a trade. Stranger things have happened.
Yes, it would take more than Saros and Jeannot for either of McDavid or Draisaitl. That's why I said "as part of a package". Josi would make sense in a trade like that, because NSH would have to send more salary EDM's way to accommodate bringing in one of their high salaries. Draisaitl wouldn't return both Josi and Saros, but absolutely McDavid would and then some.
Maybe Rodrigue is one of those goalies who puts it all together in his mid 20s, but how many teams have the patience to let a guy marinate in their minor league system for five years just in case? He's struggled mightily since he turned pro, and NSH isn't yearning for an ECHL backup anyway. Few teams are. He'll have to have a statistically improbable turnaround next season, just to get a QO.
If NSH were to trade Saros and Jeannot for just futures, does EDM have enough?
