This is pretty bad...........

Why wouldn't the Leafs just trade Nylander straight up for the # 2 instead of helping MTL get out of cap hell? Petry isn't a fit on the Leafs, he'd be Komisarek 2.0.

I'd rather pay a pick and / or a prospect to move Mrazek

I pretty agree with you that Petry won't fit with Leafs and why would they take that kind of contract back that to much 6.5m I would prefer him with a contract around 4 to 5m and for one year less.

But where I disagree with you is that Petry is not the same playstyle of komisarek. On the second pair duo defenseman Petry can help team bring offensive and play on powerplay. He's not the best on defensive but still could useful.

I agree with you on the playing style..........my comment was more towards a MTL D man coming to TOR at high $$$, and being a bust based on what's expected.
Leafs are pretty good at the PP1 and 2 QB position, so that aspect of his game would be wasted here.

The cap hit for 4 years is a problem. The Leafs always work close to it, and over 1 this year and over 1.4 in year 3 and 4 are a problem. I'd rather give up a future 3rd or 4th to be rid of him before free agency starts

Devils and Leafs both decline easily
Nylander > Anderson + Petry
Devils rather have pick 2 than 2 years of Nylander

I'm gonna be honest, I think WIllie could stick in NJ. Close to NYC without the pressure of playing for the Rangers. Elite center in Hughes. He'd probably sign an 8x7-8 and be happy. But it is tought to trade a #2 when there's uncertainty. You won't get a complete game out of him, but you will get some highlight reel offense.

Yikes. 3000 posts? And the best you could come up with is komisarek 2.0? You really know nothing. Next

Petry(retained) + Anderson + taking on mrazek > Nylander
Devils aren’t getting much better than Nylander for their second. Hypothetical based on their gm basically going to the media begging for trade pieces since people won’t sign there.

Petry is QB 2 on your team and if you don’t believe that, you’re just like your teams management and will never get past first round. Petry > Any leafs D besides Rielly

The trade proposal was for Petry at 5m (1.25m retained) which is WELL below market value for him.

If he was confirmed wanting to stay in Jersey I would do it
Since theres a big IF, I wouldn't
But Nylander + Hughes would be great together
