… and the Lauzon trade was really bad and the contract even worse, sorry but Stanley would be a glorified Chára at best.

I liked Stanley when I saw him. I figured he is good enough to play with Dobson.

Lauzon had better metrics than I thought he did.

Imo I want Lou to take advantage of Boston and get preferably Grzelcyk but I would take Reilly too. I don’t see them trading Forbort after he signed last year and they just signed Lindholm + Zboril which indicates they definitely will explore the market on Reilly and Grzelcyk (even though they shouldn’t imo…) other options could be Brett Kulak in free agency, otherwise just trade for a reliable top-4 LD who’s not that expensive to acquire and cap-wise.

Who would you recommend the isles target? I figured a late second round pick could fetch them a third pair guy who may have some upside left.

Half the reason I wanted Stanley is cause he is cheap. I’m not gonna lie and say I don’t like the size he would add to the backend next to Dobson lol.

I thought the price of acquiring Sandin, Heinola or Hague would be too high. Brannstrom is an interesting target and so is Valimaki. Admittedly I was just looking for a stay at home defenseman to play with Dobby.

Would love some of these names, don’t think they are realistic though… imagine:

Pelech - Dobson
Sandin - Pulock
Salo - Mayfield

Imo all of these pairs would complement each other excellent, I’m confident Pelech - Pulock and Sandin - Dobson would work just as fine, but I doubt either Lou or Lambert would go with that approach, just good old conservatism.

Yeah but cheap isn’t necessarily good though, Chára was cheap too. Size is one of the most overrated aspects of the game still. In some cases i.e. Samuel Girard I think it’s fair to say the player plays ”small” and gets pushed around to easy, but smaller defenseman tends to outsmart their lack in size. - and I don’t think Isles need to add size at all, Pelech, Pulock, Mayfield, Dobson are no small guys.

That was the logic with Stanley. I was trying to find someone Lou would like so I essentially wanted to find the isles version of Zadarov tbh.

I 100% agree with you and it’s worth mentioning Salo also has decent size. I figured that Stanley could just stand next to Dobson and the Isles would be fine lol. Mg expectations rn are so low it’s not funny.

Btw just a quick thank you for all the comments. I’ve never made an ACGM before and I appreciate the feedback. I should’ve specified in the description that I was trying to think like Lou would. That is why I used the Lauzon trade as a model for this ACGM. It’s also the reason I targeted Stanley.

Haha yeah my expectations is really low too, could see a scenario where Lou pays Zadorov for sure, he’s fine but the problem is he likely will be overpaid a lot, his type of D tend go be so overrated, just look at Chiarot (Zadorov is way better though) and the fact that the UFA market this offseason has basically zero LD-impact players.. who is the best? Probably Zadorov, Kulak, Cole and Edler? That’s not good and could result in a bidding war for a Zadorov or god forbid even Chiarot, these contracts is the ones you just have to stay away from.

The all caps YES leads me to believe I have made a huge mistake lol. How little would you have accepted for Stanley?

No problem, it’s ok to like a player based on your eye-test as well, even if a lot of people will say otherwise, the best thing though is to use all the available data as possible to evaluate a player to complete the analysis, otherwise a game here or there will give to much credit to a player. Just my thought process.

I also saw Stanley play against the Isles forward core which may have influenced my opinion. I know he was terrible coming back from injury though.

I think a 2nd is about right. Maybe jets add another piece like a Harkins who might not have a future in Winnipeg.

I’m someone who isn’t the biggest fan of Stanley right now, but believes he can become a solid #4-5 dman if he reaches his potential. It takes these big guys much longer to develop. Jets don’t have the time to use him on the 3rd pairing while he’s still going through growing pains.

I probably should’ve modeled the deal after Oleksiak to Pittsburgh back in what I think was the 2017-2018 season.

A third or a fourth honestly. He is going to be nothing more than a 6th defenseman, and moving him out clears the way for one of Samberg or Heinola.

I wouldn't be shocked if we get a 2nd for him because there was a supposed offer Chevy said no to that offered that pick, and G.M's love size. If Tyler Myers can get a 6 million dollar multi year deal Stanley can fetch a decent return.

Honestly I was just looking for an adequate defender lol. He has size and seemed like a decent skater when I saw him. But Barzal may have been out that game too Lmao. That’s gonna impact my opinion of him.
