I wonder if there’s a team dumb enough to give him a max extension. 8+ mill from ages 30-38 would be absolutely terrible

It is but I’m not sure if he’s got the same value with only 1 playoff run. Miller earned himself a payday, and a team will give it to him, but what team wants to sign a 30 yo to term at big money? I think whatever the Nucks get for him will be less than market expectations.

It’s the NHL, of course there is.

I like the idea of Provy but bet you he could be had for a lot less.

Well depens how you value Durzi i guess. IMO he's a legit top4 rhd, and those have value. Also keep in mind this deal has no retention and/or extension in place.

Durzi isn't quite there yet. Don't get me wrong, I love the player, but he's not quite reach the status of legit top 4 caliber just yet for me

Might be. Seems like maybe i value D-men more than some here. Provy also has 3 years with nice cap hit.

No it won't, if Canucks can't get trade market expectations for Miller, then they'll just re-sign him. The only way Miller doesn't return a huge haul in a trade is if other teams aren't willing to pay him any more money than the Canucks are, therefore they'll just re-sign him

It would, but hey, it only takes one team, one front office, one GM to cast the spell

He hasn’t been particularly good the last few years, which is what I’m thinking of. But if he can regain a bit of what got him that contract, it’s a good risk to take.

Isn’t signing 30 yo to massive contracts what got them into their mess? Miller is great, don’t get me wrong but he’s 30 with 1 season until UFA.

Part of what make DeBrincat, Pasta, and Fiala appealing for teams is that they will sing their next deal as RFAs and all are under 25.

They overpaid a few 30 something year olds in free agency, yes, but at least they didn't pay acquisition costs to bring them in

Why wouldn’t Miller just play out his contract then and then test free agency. Teams will give him more money if they don’t have to trade assets for him too

Lol, no, teams won't do that. The chances of Miller making it to free agency as extremely slim. His agent recognizes that the best opportunity to cash in is this off-season after Miller is coming off of a career year. It's not worth the risk of getting injured or putting up less points that potentially lowers his market value

Depends if teams are willing to give up a ton of assets AND give him a big contract. That doesn’t happen for 30 year olds very often. He’s also not going to sign with canucks just cause. I think he gets traded as a rental to a playoff team and then hits UFA

If teams aren't willing to give up a ton of assets for Miller, then it probably makes it easier for the Canucks to convince him to re-sign at a number they're comfortable with

One way or another, the market for Miller this off-season will be substantial, and one way or another, whether it's via trade or signing, the Canucks will have their way with managing the asset

Yeah idk. I think it’s a mistake signing JT long term for the canucks. Hes not signing a team friendly deal knowing he’s one year from UFA. Also it only makes sense for competing teams to trade for him with his age so that limits his market. Most contenders won’t have the money to sign him long term so that’s what makes it likely he’s a rental. He’s in the same boat giroux was last year. Probably fetches a late first and a good prospect
