What they should do

Created by: Db1899
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 17, 2022
Published: Jun. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
There is no path to contention next season. If the isles trade away expendable assets like Mayfield and Valamov , they can set themselves up for the future by drafting two high end forwards. Nazar should be a top 10 pick , but a lot of mock drafts have him going in the 12-16 range. He would be a steal at 13. Yurov has one of the highest ceilings in the draft and with the Russia situation he could fall to the 20s.

yeah jfresh shows that Manson is a solid two way defenseman, which is what the Avs wanted.

Omg bro. The tweet literally undermines that

I never said they were perfect they’re the best thing we got to understand a player atm and Reilly is solid 5 on 5 defenceman he’s more offensive which is why he doesn’t play pk and Boston has McAvoy which is why he doesn’t play big pp minutes

He’s not good lol. That’s the reality. He can play in a sheltered role.

nope, at the time Manson was traded he had a solid two way impact, his teammates on Anaheim didn't finish the chances he created. If you know how Colorado operates, you'd know that they target players who have shown the ability to drive play even if their GF isn't high

<a href=Screen-Shot-2022-06-17-at-3-25-22-PMprivate image hosting">

That’s his chart after he went to Colorado they have a better system so his defensive numbers got boosted he was a lot worse in Anaheim

You said you played college hockey lmao. I played club too I don’t go around telling people I played college hockey u clown.

"It’s very clear to me that u never played hockey cause u can’t tell me why a player struggled only that he did. L" - some jokes just write themselves.

Another example of why analytics r flawed. They r so reliant on ur team. That’s all I’m saying here.

Analytics tells you the results and not why it happened. Not exactly a news flash given that’s what they r designed to do.

But Manson had good micro stats so that’s probably why Colorado traded for him knowing that it was probably his system and team making him worse

Yeah I can tell u Andrew Ladd is terrible without breaking down why lol. It’s an extreme example but it’s pretty obvious what I meant. Not gonna be heckled by someone who called themselves a college hockey player cause they played club.

you need to learn how to read a chart, just ask man its not that hard. You're getting mad because you can't grasp the meaning of a basic chart

No not exactly they can isolate them pretty well but obviously it’s not perfect but it’s the best way to understand a player by ALOT

Don’t be a homer, getting 1st rd pick for a 3rd pair D and a good goaltender is far from bad value

I agree with you based on the numbers and metrics but the best way to project a players value in a trade imo is to search for comparables not by value alone. If Kuemper got that massive package from Avs last season as a rental and in his 30s I definitely think Varlamov could fetch quite a ”package” in a dried up goalie market like it seems to be this year, two 2nds is definitely something I think Lou could get for him.

As for Mayfield I think we have anough comparables to confidently believe Mayfield would in fact cost a 1st rounder, definitely come trade deadline if Isles isn’t in it… Savard, Ristolainen, Chiarot all rentals and much worse than Mayfield and on bigger contracts… I don’t think this is biased to believe. If there was several available goalies this offseason I don’t think Varlamov would be particularly expensive..

Microstats are flawed too tho. U can look at the Avs V Blues chart from Jfresh. I think Colorado’s entire top six graded out better than every single blues forward lol.

He had good micro stats an analytics. They targeted Toews, Burakovsky knowing that their linemates affected their counting stats and GF. Avs care about driving play, that's what they look for in players and they target players who have been unlucky.

I get what ur saying here. I’m just saying those counting stats r not nearly as reliable as u think. By and large if u play on a winning team ur metrics r gonna reflect that. It’s not a controversial opinion in any way shape or form.

Agreed. But I never disputed that. I said the impact of ur team on ur analytics and microstats is pretty large. Not controversial in any way shape or form.

I mean if you go back and look at the charts they disagree with you. Look at the microstat game scores from the Avs series against the blues and oilers. I think 7/8 forwards in the Avs V oilers series according to that data were on the Avs.

IK they try to. Im telling u it doesn’t work nearly as well as u claim it does. Look at the difference in Manson’s numbers in Anaheim and Colorado if u don’t believe me lol.

it's not about a comeback, you're literally not smart enough to understand basic charts/numbers and how theyre used in hockey or else you would have quit rambling like an idiot a long time ago

You don’t get it do u? This isn’t golf or tennis it’s a team sport. Every decision made on the ice has to be based on ur teammates, the game situation and what ur coach wants u to do. That’s true at any level of hockey. The fact that ur just ignoring that and saying “the analytics isolate player impact” isn’t true.
