NJ and the playoffs This is why you keep rebuilding

Created by: Momz
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 17, 2022
Published: Jun. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team would at the very best be a WC team and would have to extend a wave of RFAs next year. This is why you keep rebuilding as frustrating as it can be. It also lacks veteran presence up-front.

Additional Details:
As I'd go for Jack Campbell. I would need to free up a goalie roster spot. Buffalo won't have cap issues this season and the 2 goalies that played last year are UFAs including a 42yo Craig Anderson. NJ gets it's own 5th back and Bernier only has 1yr left.

I doubt the Leafs wouldn't match but they'd have just 3.6M left for Kase, Engvall, Blackwell, Mikheyev, Liljegren, Lyubushkin and not many picks to send Mrazek or a Kerfoot elsewhere. If they match then it's Ty Smith's spot

Is Bernier even going to be able to play? Sounded like his hip issues were becoming a major concern last i had heard anything about him.

From what I've read they he doesn't expect to start the season. But he should play at some point during the next season. If not then I'd send him to AZ where contracts go to die (for a late round pick)

If your point is that the Devils shouldn't trade #2 and overpay Campbell, I think most Devils fans would agree with that.

However our cap situation is completely fine. Shango, Sieg, Sevo and Cat (in this ACGM) would be the only players that have earned a relevant raise. Graves and Johnsson would likely just get replaced within the prospect pool. (Like Luke and Gritsyuk).

See, I’m all for only making smart moves. But people, like you I’m assuming, are fine with continuously saying “there’s always next year.” Forgot that, start getting some players that can get us to playoffs NOW. U don’t just get in the first time and win the Cup. You need a few years playoff experience to get into contention. If it were up to u, our cup window would be in 10 years. Trading top picks and prospects for Cat would be a GOOD move bc it puts us closer to winning. If Holtz turns out to be a stud, he’ll probably be no better than DeBrincat in terms of goal scoring. And I like Slafkovsky but he’s another guy we’re gonna have to develop. Each year of development is a year gone from Nico, Jack, and Bratt’s career. Keep that in mind

Certainly not if he is not going to be able to play. If he were healthy I might make this trade.
