3 Potential tank pieces

Created by: Kyle_Davidson

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Potential tank pieces in my mind are players that have bad contracts that can bring in some assets when acquiring them but who also don’t make the team better immediately. Let’s forget about all of the trade rumors and look at some contracts team could/should/would move to the hawks if a fair trade can be agreed upon. All of these guys have term on their contracts and project to be bottom of the lineup players so theoretically they shouldn’t block top prospects.

LTIR indicates player would otherwise be traded to kickstart the rebuild sad as that may be.

Rangers decline. They don't need a sweetener.

Wonder about switching Khaira for Borgström

As to me Borgström fits with what potentially could be seen in the bottom 6

they’re completely capped out and have to get rid of him. it’s probably more like a 3rd or 4th but you’re still going to have to pay to move him i’d think

The term of two years makes me think this dump gets to the level of a second round pick. Maybe they buy him out?

imo the cap hit’s too low for that, the leafs gave up a 2nd with ritchie at the same hit + term but got a good player back in the deal.

They have 12 mil in cap space, most of the roster filled and their most expensive RFA is Kakko, who’s getting a cheap bridge. They’re not capped out at all. He went for a 4th like 16 months ago. He’s probably worth a late pick, no sweetener. His
metrics look pretty similar to Forbort.

I don’t think the situations are exactly similar but also not dissimilar. I rate it at the 2nd-3rd range.

correct me if i’m wrong, but the rangers have just under 12mil to sign approximately eight players. if they want to sign copp, nemeth’s a goner (even without it it’s super tight), and with the M-NTC the teams not on that list have even more leverage. he got traded for a fourth as a rental with a 1.5mil cap hit. he’s got two years left at 2.5 right now, it’s not a similar situation imo.

8 players? Maybe a couple. It’s like Kakko (<3mil), and a backup goalie (maybe 1-2mil). They already have plenty of Dmen and 4th liners under contract at the minimum. If they want to sign Copp? Great. But not a necessity. They can have a full playoff worthy roster with 5 mil cap remaining. They’re not forced to do anything.

i’m really not sure about that first part. try and make a team on capfriendly for next year and you’ve got 9 forwards
(didn’t notice blais on IR at first), five defensemen and a goalie. you can call up ELC guys for some of those spots but there’s still a lot of spots to fill.

I don’t really agree. Smith and Lundkvist are both exceptional defensively and between Hunt /Rydahl there’s a 4th line that’s totally there for the taking. There’s no forced hand here. Which means no need for sweetener on basically any asset.
