I dont hate it
Not sure i love it either though

I just dont know where we'd fit him in without a Byron,Hoffman or Armia going back
I suppose we could always waive or move them
If it was a TDL deal mid season it could actually work out with Byron being moved for sure as a pending UFA along with Drouin IMO

If this was Pre-Pitlick i'd be more Excited i think
But Pitlick came in and did great hitting another level under MSL
MTL Media loves him cause he plays hard and never gives up like a mini gallagher without the Attitude/grit

I'd do 2nd + good prospect
Not interested in dealing a 1st at this stage

Agreed
But it all depends the time of the trade
If we can get him for that after selling Byron and Drouin as pending UFA's at the TDL
Then it might be worth the gamble depending on what we get for those 2

If we can get the typical Hughes overpay then sure
If we cant then the market wont allow for it and a 1st i agree is too steep then

yeah maybe but Kakko was a 2nd overall pick for a reason and is still only like 20.

i know its a long shot but im not trading a 2023 1st just because of the slim chance they pull a 2020 San Jose and we get 2 top 5-7 picks

Habs won't give up an unprotected 1st in 2023 even if it's Florida's pick.... they'll give you a 2nd and a good prospect

The contract is a big factor in such trade so this is why team won't want to pay what you'd call 'true value'

That a great contract, in fact he wouldn't even sign that

I didn't see you already signed him ... i thought it's before he's signed, and BTW that's what i meant... he probably won't sign such a contract which bringsy previous point that his contract will be a big factor if he gets traded

Well even then he shouldn't get anything more than 3 years for anything more than 3 mil per year

Habs could just offersheet him for 4.2m x 3 years and only give up a 2nd rounder. Rangers cant accept that since Laffy is also an RFA the next year and they need to spend 6+ million on a 2nd line center.

I remember CGY fans saying that about Bennet and it may have been true
But it took years of him suffering before he finally got moved to a system the suits him

Kakko is the same in NYR
That said im not sure MTL is that different
Kakko to me makes the most sense is likely NSH or VGK
Their systems and depth would see Kakko likely light it up

Issue for MTL is we have Ylonen who IMO will end his career with as much success as Kakko will(different journeys, same result)
Ylonen took time to develop all his game playing big minutes while Kakko much like Lehkonen or KK got brought up too early stunting their development
He went from years and years ahead of the curve to on a level playing field with many prospects

Agreed and Kotkanemi shoulda got about the same at best
But Offer Sheets are being pushed more especially by new owners who havent conformed yet to Ownership Board's viewpoints.

That said i dont think Kakko has to worry
Laffy does for sure as even though he struggled for so long
MTL would give up multiple 1st's to get Laffy-Suzuki-Caufield longterm
