Lucic will probably just retire instead of being bought out. He cant resign with Calgary and probably wont want to go look for a new home even if he is offered a few contacts

Lucic would rather retire and get nothing vs getting bought out and getting $3.67M? How does that make sense?

Getting $3.67M before retiring the next year, and signing with another team for another million dollars doesn't sound ridiculous to me, but hey what's a few million dollars worth anyways right?

He retires after his signing bonus so he still gets 3M.

If he retires before the season, he has to pay back the signing bonus.

Well I just checked the entire CBA and can't find that anywhere. Even if it was a thing he could just retire to LTIR like Seabrook did last year

I don't hate the Sabres and Leaf trades. The Islanders get a free winger. The Kings trade probably aint it though.

Hey what's it like being the idiot that wouldn't trade a player scratched in your final game, a B level prospect, a cap dump and a likely pick 25+ 1st round pick for a guy who has a conn smythe, a hart, still is elite, has a connection with your best forward. You guys lost to the lightning in 4 straight (following 2 wins) because your team doesn't have enough elite talent or winning experience. 2 game 7's and a 4 piece to the throat, but hey lets resign kakko and keep nemeth who would cost about what kane would make on a retained deal. GTFO of here. And don't even give me the "we need a 2C" argument, when an elite first line winger is worth more and chytil could easily be that guy or you could still resign copp with some savvy.

What's it like not realizing that a 1 year rental of Kane isn't worth HALF what you proposed? Rangers made the playoffs as the 3rd youngest team and played 20 games making it to the ECF when most people thought they had a slight chance to make the playoffs. And they lost to the 2x defending Cup champs, what a shame that is, huh? Trading off young (21 year old) players with tons of potential for an aging vet that they get for 1 whole year, is something an idiot would propose and do, so look in the mirror. EASY PASS for the Rangers.

It happened to Shipachyov when he retired from Vegas to go back to Russia.

Shipachyov retires from NHL, can return to play in Russia

He'd get to keep the pro-rated amount based on the number of contract days elapsed before his retirement.

You have to be injured to go on LTIR. A sprained shoulder isn't exactly career ending.
