Lots of Moves

Description
I'm doing this as a scenario in which Philadelphia is signing Gaudreau. They shed the final year of Van Riemsdyk's cap hit to the Hawks and kick in a 3rd rounder and a prospect. This gives them the cap space to sign Gaudreau. Hawks can possibly flip JVR at the deadline if he's having a good year.

It also leaves Calgary with a pretty big hole in their lineup that the Hawks use to acquire 2 top tier prospects in exchange for Debrincat. With Lucic and Monahan's money coming off the books after next season, they would be able to sign Debrincat to a long term deal without really hurting their cap going forward. Is Zary AND Coronato too much?

Trading Dach to Montreal for the 29th pick, Anderson and Byron gives the Canadiens major cap relief and a young player to possibly unlock some potential with that the Hawks couldn't. Chicago takes on almost $9M in salary with Byron and Anderson and gets a 1st rounder that they need. Byron another potential piece to flip with him being on an expired deal.

The rest of the moves are just shedding players in exchange for draft picks and signing some veteran D-men and 2 backup goaltenders because it really doesn't matter who's in between the pipes for this team.

The Cal pick is 26th. Habs are planning on moving up so theyll need that pick. Would probably be the Habs 2nd moved which is 33rd overall. Otherwise I like the deal. Habs would have a center core of Suzuki - Wright and Dach. Thats very solid

If Dach was put back into this draft, hed be 10-15 overall. Anderson + 33rd overall instead would get that done.

Not even close to enough for Debrincat, we can easily get pick 2 off New Jersey plus more lol

Zary and Coronato are closer to being NHL ready and are less of a gamble than who they could possibly pick 2nd overall. Look at what happened with Dach at #3 overall

Dach is still really young and we don't need NHL ready players rn, we need guys who we can build our franchise around once Kane and Toews are gone, also there has been rumors that the Canadians might not take Wright, so we could easily get Shane Wright at 2.

Anderson means more to Montreal than Dach would. Especially if the Habs intend on drafting Wright

Should Anderson get traded, it would likely be for something that addresses a need. If the Habs do draft Wright, barring another trade, their middle would be Suzuki, Dvorak, Wright, Evans and Poehling (in no particular order)

Dach is looking more and more like a winger with his struggles at the faceoff dot.

Zary and Coronato are both solid building blocks.

In the last few years, the Habs have had enough players who struggle with the position they are expected to play (galchenyuk, KK, Drouin)

I am almost certain that Anderson is not getting traded and almost certain that it wouldn't be for Dach. That being said, this was/is a fun convo and debate

I was looking at it from a cost perspective with Montreal. I could have gone with Hoffman or Dvorak instead, but I just like Anderson's game best, and I think most teams would pick him out of those 3 choices.

please take this the right way but do you actually support CHI or follow the team?

Some of the moves here are just plain no good for CHI. In no way should we be taking on additional cap and moving our top young player. KD has already confirmed he doesn't want unnecessary cap so this proposal is contrary to whats been announced.

CHI underselling CAT is also something that goes against what KD has proven to date. He didn't want to ship Hagel though got an offer he couldn't refuse. As much as I like CGY, this isn't the move and they cannot afford if they resign Chuky and Johnny.

Kurashev for a 6th! Another quality player u23 on a rebuilding team who's proven he can play in the NHL as a Bottom 6/Middle 6 in most situations is worth far more to us than a 6th.

Overall, most of these moves favour the other team and quite heavily. We need to turn a page, Stan isn't the GM anymore. If he was still in place, these sort of moves could occur (albeit still bad)

I’m unloading Stan’s garbage so that they can start fresh. Kurashev’s grow on trees in this league.

It says in the description that this is based off of Gaudreau leaving Calgary and signing in Philly.

The only reason they got 2 firsts for Hagel was because of his cap hit. Obviously DeBrincat is a more skilled player than Hagel, but that doesn’t always mean you get more for him in a trade.

I understand taking out the trash and the caveat about Johhny not re-signing with CGY but some of these moves completely undervalue some of the players here and thats exactly what stan would do so in essence it is creating just as big a problem as the stan moves if not worse because it dissolves his moves into nothing virtually.

Im not sure what your saying. Are you selling Cat cheap because of the Johnny caveat? It doesn't make sense to sell low on our best asset like this. Pelletier Coronato + 1st would be a base point and CGY shouldn't touch it. (albeit I understand your caveat re:Johnny)

I can understand why your frustrated with Dach but this move puts us back much further and an even bigger swing at a late 1st in a supposed weak draft while taking on unnecessary cap which would prohibit us gaining more futures for bad contracts.

Khaira if healthy can get a late pick at TDL like Carpenter did this year and Wingel did in previous years....

Totally understand the frustration with the hockey club but moving these pieces for pennies doesn't do us any favours and we can ill afford to hand out favours to other franchises around the league. Like you alluded to, Stan already did plenty of that.
