Improving Defense

Created by: butterbean91
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2022
Published: Jun. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not sure what MTL expects to get in return for a 33 year old, $6+ million for 3 more years, defensemen. I'm sure I could've added for Sergachev, roast me. Defense looks much better. Trade Monahan at TDL as a rental, barring he has a bounce back year.

I like the TB & CGY trades, though I don't think TB moves Sergachev.

I don't like the Petry or VGK trades. I think you're undervaluing Suter, and way overvaluing Petry (as does everybody on CF). Just sign a younger guy that can play RD instead, or get Bear from Carolina for cheap. I don't want the 34/35yo w/ three years left on his $6M+ contract.

Petry is underrated on Capfriendly, everyone are scare of his contract due to his age but Petry is a solid #3 dman. He is a fluide skater and he is a modern NHL dman

It's not just being scared of his contract due to age (which you, or anybody, cannot predict what will happen as he inevitably regresses from age 35 to 37). It's also that MTL thinks a rebuilding team like DET will give up multiple picks and young players to acquire a guy that will be retired by the time the players we give up hit their prime.

Would would an offer from yourself look like? I didn't think I was giving up too much but interested to see another POV.

Walman and the 2nd aren't a big deal, but WW has very big potential. He has always been seen as a "homerun" kind of pick with the possibility of hitting a very high ceiling if he makes it. And all indications thus far is that he's progressing on a very good trajectory.

Personally, I don't feel that Petry to DET is a good fit because he's the opposite end of the spectrum from what we need in terms of age, and we have 3 solid RHD. It's only a good fit if we can obtain him for something like what we obtained Leddy for (a 2nd) and flip him later, but that contract might be hard to flip. I think Petry to DET is only a thing because he's from Ann Arbor.

Thing is that he has trouble breathing through the games since he had Covid.

Perhaps he does. If he had the right physical trainer (and read the book "Breath" by James Nestor), I think that can be improved. smile
