Panarin for Pick 2

Created by: HartemiPanarin

Description
If the reports of New Jersey wanting an impact player for Pick #2, and Drury being vocally unpleased with Panarin's efforts, these two combined could result in a blockbuster trade, that honestly is a win win for both sides, given the contract situations, and team needs. NJ is in a spot where they have a ton of cap room, and not that many big deals to hand out in the near future. They can afford to take on Panarin's 11.645 without any issues for the next 3 years. From NYR's perspective, there is no chance that they'll be able to keep all their key RFA's (Laf, Chytil, Kakko, K'Andre, Schneider) without moving one of the expensive veteran contracts. In terms of the value coming back, and the overall locker room presence, I chose Panarin to be traded. I can't see either Kreider or Zibanejad being moved as they played so well together, and I couldn't see Trouba being moved either, as reports came out of him supposed to being named Captain at the beginning of this past season.

Any constructive criticism is welcome, and I'm more than happy to elaborate on my explanations :).

Absolutely not from Buffalo
Don’t want Tatar
And wouldn’t give up a 3rd for him if we did

This actually isn’t a bad package at all really. Maybe swap our first with a second and a 4th or something. Could be wrong, Panarin 98% isn’t going anywhere, however; I wouldn’t be upset with this package tbh. Wright/Cooley/Slaf would be a solid return!

Why would Buffalo trade for a 31 year old with 1 year left on his deal? They'd be more likely to want Wood given his age and being from the area.

Is really a win for Jersey? 11.6m can get you a very UFA this season or next and you can keep the 2nd overall pick. Maybe Gaudreau, maybe Huberneau next year
And Panarin has a NMC....does he really care what Drury thinks.?

I was about to say the same thing. Why on earth would you give up #2 pick (where you can have a young stud, hopefully top 6 producer by the end of 3 years) for Panarin, when you could likely sign Gaudreau for 2M less, Forsberg for 3M less, and still keep the pick.

Pretty sure Buffalo and Philadelphia pass.

Van fans can judge that one.

If they're unprotected 2013 picks NYR are in.

Ottawa probably passes.

Fair enough. This trade was more of a cap dump for NJ, but I didn't think NJ would have to pay to shed the salary smile

Someone might want Tatar, just not us
I don’t think you’d get more than a later round pick for him though

The reports and rumours I've seen from Devils management is that they're willing to move the pick for an impact player rn. Panarin is probably the best player you'd get in return for that pick, so it fits the needs imo smile

Gaudreau will sign for around 10.5 mill, and I'd assume Forsberg for around 9.5. It just depends on the caliber of player you're willing to settle for, but IMO Panarin is the best out of those 3 previously mentioned, and it fits NJ's needs when they say they want to contend right now. smile

i just think you have a better shot at contention saving 1M, signing the slightly worse player for slightly cheaper, and keeping that #2 pick, who can help not only now, but also for the next 8+ years if youre lucky!

But i'm a canucks fan who wanted Panarin to sign here 3 years ago!

Oooh, I didn't know that about Wood. Overall when trading Tatar I was looking for teams with cap space that could want some veteran leadership, but Wood makes much more sense now smile

I understand the appeal of keeping the #2 pick, but NJ management has stated that they want to move the pick for someone who can help right now. That info along with the Drury hate made me make this mock trade smile

They never stated they want to move pick, this whole speculation comes from one interview where Fitzgerald said he would explore all his options and if something he liked came up he’d willing to move it. This was also before the devils won 2OA. Under NO circumstance would the devils help the Rangers in any way. This is helping the rangers. Number 2OA and an unprotected 1st next year is absolute lunacy when they’d be giving it to their biggest rivals. 3 years of Panarin do not equate to 2 possible future young studs on elcs. There are far better ways to get competitive and I can’t stress this enough, the Devils will not help the Rangers.
