I get your a Canucks fan but Marino is worth a top 15 pick, Kapanen probably a low 2nd and Demko is good but he’s not 2nd overall good not to mention he’s turning 27 and has never had a season above a .915

As for Demko and the 2nd overall… last year NJD was 15th in CF% at 5v5, 14th in S% 5v5, and 13th in XG% 5v5. That should be enough to make the playoffs, but instead the finished near the bottom of the league because they were DEAD LAST in 5v5 save percentage.

Sorokin and shesterkin were #1 and #2 in 5v5 save percentage last year. I will give you kne guess who was number 3….

Demko was very consistent this past season. There is nothing in his game to suggest this past season was a fluke

Not enough to make the playoffs in the east GF% they ranked 21st and SA/60 they ranked 23rd with 31.68 don’t get me wrong they were definitely a middle of the pack team but why give up the 2nd overall for a goalie who’s been elite one season? There‘s a lot cheaper options FA wise and trade wise to go with

Thatcher Demko was 8th in GSAx 5v5 in 2021 and 3rd in 2022 (first in GSAA 5v5) per evolving hockey

His numbers are severely hurt by the PK. Quite polarizing as a result. Imo the 3000 5v5 minutes are more representative of his ability than the 270 SH minutes behind one of the worst PKs in the league

He was consistent at being elite, not just solid, ELITE, you are way underplaying how good he was this past season

All seems fine in the POV of a Canucks fan besides the Demko trade.

He ranked 17th in GSAX, ranked 15th in fsv% (GA/FA), ranked 19th in xfsv% (xGA/FA) *evolving hockey stats* 25 games minimum*
He ranks 21st in high danger unblocked sv% above expected 20th in medium and 17th in low
To me this doesn’t scream elite at all he screams solid he’s a good starter that’s about all he was last season the season prior yes he was but for only 1 season his whole career so far
