It's a fair contract. It's not unreasonable for Palat to take a bit less to stay in Tampa. Grow up.

Detroit isn't the right trade partner for McDonagh.

Blues seem to be a better fit for RMD.

He probably has a season or 2 before his play starts to drop and I don't see Detroit making the playoffs this season. So it makes no sense for Detroit or McDonagh who has an NTC.

The 4 years scares me. Yzerman can't block Edvinsson, Johansson and Wallinder at LD. RMD is still very good but he's played so much hockey. So many hard minutes. The wheels will soon be falling off. Don't want be stuck with that contract.

Cap space will be needed down the road when we need to pay Larkin, Bert, Seider and Raymond. I know fans think Yzerman will trade for RMD because he traded for him before. But I can't see it happening again. Besides, why would he waive his NTC for Detroit?

We'll likely just sign a vet like Ian Cole and bring Staal back for another season. A short term placeholder until the kids are NHL ready.

Problem is not Mac or his age, it is term and cap. Let's say Yzerman signs Larkin and Bertuzzi and each get bumps. Larkin get 8.5 and Bertuzzi get 6.5 that eats cap, the following year he has Ned, Seider , Raymond and Vrana to sign. That if all signed takes up even more cap. If we start this year with 62 million

Larkin gets 2.25 million bump, Bertuzzi gets 2 .5 million bump, that east up 5 million. Now Seider and Raymond get bumps Moe gets 6.05 bump and Raymond get 4.05 bump, Vrana get 2 million bump and ed get 1 million. I just spent 16 million dollars in cap space over two years. I know other will come off like Erne, but there are others who will need new deals like Rasmussen, Hronek, Lindstrom and Fabbri. Now all might not be resigned or maybe dealt but you have to replace them and that may or not eat cap. I would rather go with a cheaper option like Schmidt or Petersson on shorter deals
