Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2022
Published: Jul. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
this is NOT what i would want to happen.

UFA SIGNING EXPLANATIONS

Letang: It’s well known he wants a 4-5 year deal north of $8 million AAV. This is a bad contract for his age, but it’s what’s likely to happen.

Trocheck: While he is a Pittsburgh native, this is more because Malkin is likely on the way out. The only thing Malkin and the Penguins are on the same page about is term. Trocheck is basically confirmed to test FA and wants around a 6x6, which i also think is a slight overpay, but again its what i think will happen.

Desmith: nothing crazy, just reported to be working on a deal.

RFA SIGNINGS

Kapanen: Hextall said something along the lines of “we hope we get more from him next year” when talking about kapanen, so that probably means he’s staying in a pens jersey whether we like it or not.

Joseph: obvious, should be getting a lineup spot next year

Nylander: also obvious, should get some time as well
OTHER

Drew Oconnor apparently might get a larger role next season, hence his spot on the third line. I expect guys like Poulin and Puustinen to get in the lineup as well at times, but DOC is probably gonna get the most time out of our small group of younger forwards.

Recent reports have Letang wanting a 5x8 and Pit wanting a 3x7. Thinking they'd meet somewhere around 4x7.7 is more than fair

On point, really don’t see anything wrong with this it’s realistic and the 2.5m in cap space can be put to use at the deadline and give us a nice breathing room. Probably what’s likely to happen is the team you are seeing right here. Only thing I’d add is shipping Heinen out for a pick so we don’t lose him for nothing.

We’ll need retention to get Peterson, he’s overpaid as a 3LD, and hasn’t played the minutes or the strength of completion we need as a 2LD for over two years.

Also you’ll have to wait, as Chychrun or reupping Edler are more optimal or cheaper options.

Pettersson is a 2LD. Just because he hasn’t gotten the opportunity here doesn’t mean he isn’t

Right now, due to the Fiala signing, we have $1 million to spend at LD. Some other adjustment(s) would have to be made.
