From what I have understood from BOS fans, we would need to include Petey in order to pry their precious Carlo away from them

I think what he means is that we would only add Poulin or a first in any trade, but we could add other assets.

So it could be like Kapanen a first and miller. Or Poulin miller a 2nd and a 3rd for example

I like Carlo a lot. Good defensive d-man with a lot of size and decent mobility. Good contract too.

That said, he’s not really a top pairing guy. I think Hughes’ offensive abilities and skating and hockey IQ would make up for carlo’s average transition play and poor offensive instincts so I like the fit, but I wouldn’t be willing to trade more than garland for Carlo one for one.

I added the bad contracts in Poolman and Foligno just to even out the cap a bit for next season

Hmmm okay I see what you mean. I would do Marino poulin kap and a pick I think. Kapanen is tough because of his qualifying offer but I do like the player

Can't see them moving Carlo since they're most likely rebuilding and he is their best D. But lots of threads have Garland for Marino or JBD/Thomson from the Sens though.

He is their 3rd best D both McAvoy and lindholm are better. No chance McAvoy gets moved and lindholm has a full NMC. Garland helps fill in their top 6 which is getting increasingly depleted every year

Miller is almost 30 and want 8 million aav next season Marino is still in his mid 20’s and on a steal of a contract this deal makes no sense for Pitt. Vancouver is not gonna get much more than what Minnesota got for Fiala

honestly, I think the Pens would offer Marino, Poulin, and Kapanen. They wouldn't offer more than this for a player who only has a year left on their contract, unless they knew that player would resign on a team friendly deal. ESPECIALLY if they're planning on keeping Letang and Malkin.

Canuck fans seem to devalue Marino, even thought they ALL want him, and over value Miller. He isn't really worth a RH Def, top prospect, 1st rnd, and more.

Marino has a good contract and is younger but Miller is much better and fills an area of need for Pitt (assuming Malkin doesn’t re-sign) Pittsburgh has reported interest in miller AND Marino is well reported to be available. He’s high on Daily Face offs offseason trade targets

Really want Marino but I wouldn’t overpay for him. Miller is the Canucks best forward. There is a bidding war for him and even though he has one year left, it’s at a very affordable number.

If Pitt doesn’t offer up Marino poulin ++ then that’s okay. There would just me no trade with them

Not kidding at all. There's a big difference between a hockey trade and a trade for futures. Miller in a trade for futures, even though he's a rental, is probably worth a 1st, 2nd and good prospect, maybe two firsts and a good prospect. In a hockey trade it's a very different story. You're talking about sending a rental for a non-rental. You're gettin a young top four RHD with term and a reasonable cap-hit. That has major value and off-sets many things.

Right but miller is a much better player than Marino. If your getting a #4 Dman on a good contract that’s nice, but if that’s the majority of the value you get when trading your point per game 1C who has very high market trade value then you’re losing the trade every time

Miller is certainly better at his position than Marino is at his position, but Marino is still very good at his position and has yet to reach his ceiling and is on target to be a very good #2 dman, but how good you are is only part of the equation.

Factoring the existing contract in is a big part of assessing the value. Miller is a rental and you're getting a good young player on term, and that has major value and chips away at the return your'e going to get. If Miller had another year or two on his contract? Totally different story here, but he doesn't.

I agree contract and age adds value. That’s the only reason why Marino and miller are even talked about in the same sentence. If miller had an extra year or two there is simply no way he would even be available.

If you don’t think miller is worth Marino, poulin, Kapanen, and another pick (probably a 2nd) that’s okay. Canucks don’t have to trade miller to Pittsburgh. But reality is miller is a lot more valuable than Marino and Pitt would have to significantly add if this type of trade ever did materialize

Miller is worth more than Marino, which is why I'm saying either Poulin ro a 1st on top of Marino is fair, so you're getting MORE. The Pens don't need Miller and don't have to trade Marino, and most likely will not trade Marino, so there's that.

You wouldn’t overpay for Marino just like no other team will overpay for 30 year old JT Miller who is a year away from free agency
