Lol, Rasmus isn't leaving if you give him Meril's spot.

If dubas Kees Muzzin on the roster and loses Sandin it will be the biggest mistake of his short career.

Minnesota declines easily. Greenway wasn't given extension to be traded. Minnesota isn't or doesn't have any need for Kerfoot or Rasmus s. So leafs fans, with all due respect, trade Kerfoot and Rasmus elsewhere

Seems like no one has a need for Kerfoot. They keep trying to dump him and everyone keeps saying no thank you.

Yep, the solution is pretty easy. Guarantee him a spot and it should be a no brainer for his development. If he struggles on his offside then move Muzzin or Gio there

I think Keefe likes Holl too much so they were probably planning on starting Sandin as their 7th

MN says no. The trade doesn't make them any better (maybe lateral) and adds cap for them in the process.

3.5m utility guy that can play centre and put up points. Seems to me 32 teams could use that including the leafs. 3m greenway who can't play centre and produces less is indispensable even with sandin coming back. Seems more like anti leaf bias.

Holl has nothing to do with Sandin who can not play the right and has publicly stated he does not want to play there.

Pretty simple decisions to be made here. Rielly top pair heart and soul of the team. Gio cheap hometown contract with good results. Sandin young stud with amazing results. Muzzin... expensive old broken with very poor results.

So why are you trying to trade him if he is such a bargain ?

Not my agm. But if I were trading him it would be to upgrade him. Someone who is a better play driver, better centre and makes way more money.

Problem is no team wants Kerfoot so you are sort of stuck with his contract. Canucks certainly don't want him. I doubt very much if Minny want him either.

Lol, "stuck with his contract" I would imagine there would be a pile of teams interested in him if he went on the block. I don't mind being stuck with him at all.

The moment you start thinking cap friendly resembles reality is the moment you have lost your mind.

Where do you think, Muzzin would waive to go?

That is the question. Trying to find a balance of where he would waive and fit. But I don't have the luxury of being able to ask Muzzin. I think if it's a contender you need to bring in a 3rd team for retention.

Holland is an idiot and may be getting rid of Duncan Keith. Maybe we can trade Muzzin for Mcdavid and a 1st....

Yeah, I'm sure Muzzin will be missed in the locker room but it should be done. They can resign Lyubushkin, so that what Muzzin brought defensively isn't missed. Can keep Holl as a 7th D if they don't end up needing the savings and they add an 8th guy around league min.

I wouldn't even bother with lyubushkin. Get a vet Dman to cover 7th. Muzzin was our weakest Dman last season. We already have his replacement in Sandin. If he isn't ready get a vet D at the deadline on an expiring deal.

Muzzin was most weakest defensively which is why we should move on from and potentially injury prone but when he is playing he's a physical presence on the blue line, and Lybushkin is that as well. Losing both is probably not ideal, the 7th D man could bring that as well but you don't know how well he will fit. I also like Lybushkin's versatility especially since it allows Brodie to play away from Reilly (maybe Giordano and Brodie can form a shutdown pair when it's needed). His projected salary is around 1.5m so if we can truly get him on a sub 2m deal for 2 years, I would feel more confident in that the blue line would potentially improve the following year when Holl is gone (assuming he becomes an own rental).

They can then run these pairings based on the task at hand:

a)
Reilly - Brodie
Giordano - Liljegren
Sandin - Lybushkin

b)
Reilly - Lybushkin
Giordano - Brodie
Sandin - Liljegren

From there they can add later in the season to address any weaknesses. If both Sandin and Lybushkin are taking sub-2m then they would have an incredibly cheap D-core for the next 2 seasons that isn't too bad if the two young guys can continue to make strides forwards. Then they will have a little extra to offer Fleury and Husso, and more for the 3rd line.

Kerfoot probably gets upgraded to Dylan Strome at ~3.8m, but they will probably try to get him to sign closer to 3m and less than Kerfoot's 3.5 for 2 years.

Sandin is much more of a physical threat than Muzzin. Has the legs to go out and touch people rather than waiting for them to skate into him like Boosh and Muzzin. Boosh was an average bottom pair defender at his best and was lit up in the Tampa series.

Not sure why Boosh is taking another haircut after his first contract being so low for so long. He will go to the highest bidder. It won't be the leafs.

I don't think Sandin would be clearing guys from in front of the net even if he's throwing his weight around.

I agree that Lyubushkin is probably going to go to the highest bidder but it might only be slightly above 2m. I do see the possibility of a team being able to convince him to take a cut for 2 years to increase his stock for when he becomes 30. If he's not, then so be it.
