My realistic offseason

Created by: Wadejos123
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 5, 2022
Published: Jul. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hawks don't get an overwhelming offer for Debrincat and keep him

Toews and Kane commit to the rebuild and helping the kids, extending 3.5M x 2 and 8Mx4 respectively

Two bodies are moved off the blue line

Hawks add two cheaper veterans in net, with Soderblom also taking about 20 games

Hawks weaponize cap space and retention spots to accumulate assets for the rebuild

Strome is traded, Kubalik is not qualified and allowed to hit UFA

This hawks team isn't as gutted as most people make it be on their ACGM's, and I think that is okay. This hawks team below is still a worse version of the team was finished 6th worse this season.

I would rather buy out Gardiner and not trade for JVR than that trade

I feel like the leafs get more out of the extra cap space from moving mrazek than the hawks get from moving up 13 spots. I doubt the isles give up a 2nd for McCabe, especially after the year he had and for the term and cost left on his contract. The Strome trade is interesting and I like the Hill trade, I just don't think San Jose does it

If the Hawks just get JVR for future considerations, the Canes can just go to the Flyers and propose JVR half retained for Gardiner and something like a 2nd. JVR is a cap dump, and so is Gardiner, the second would be for the retention to even out the cap a bit. Why would the Canes deal with a middle man if they can go right to the source in this scenario? I mean, unless there is going to be double retention or something.

I wouldn't say liked it. If leafs plan on trading down and can't get Mrazek moved for cheaper I think they would consider this.

But that is two circumstances lining up.

Flyers seems to think they can be good for whatever reason next year, so I don't think they're gonna be in the business to take all that dead cap
