Possible MTL offseason

Created by: yourmomther
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 5, 2022
Published: Jul. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team is built to let the young players get good minutes in the NHL. Most vets traded for picks as they are not looking to make the playoffs with a good possibility for a lottery pick next year. Under St Louis I think these players can get experience in important roles while competing at the NHL level without major expectations of making the playoffs.
If Carey cant play this season due to injury Montembeault is an option for a third string just in case to avoid putting the pressure on Carey to return before he is healthy.

That would be a rough return for Dvorak less than a year after trading a 1st and a 2nd to get him.

Suppose it depends on how badly someone needs him. He's about a 45-50 point middle 6C which isn't terrible. He'd have to get at least a late 1st from pretty much anyone that would want him for the playoffs. The right team might give closer to the same price that Montreal paid to get him.

Personally I wasnt really a fan of flipping the kk offersheet picks, I felt it was an overpay at the time for him but fair enough I see where you're coming from.

It would be nice to get the same return for Dvorak but I feel the habs just won't be able to get that unless a team is really trying to get middle 6 centers over everything else .

My thoughts on why to trade Dvorak is he is a good center I do agree but if he has value to go to a team that could use a middle 6 center and would be willing to pay a late first or a second I think the habs should do it considering we probably do not go for a playoff spot for the next few years and Dvo is a ufa in 3 years so if we did want him back it is always a possibility to go back a sign him if we do get good and want him back in mtl. Either way trading him or keeping would be fine.

I guess if mtl wanted to go after PLD in winnipeg this year they could offer dvorak and some other assets to winnipeg with dvorak being able to fill the 2c if they keep schiefele for 1c. Definately a much better trade I just didnt think of it at the time when I was making it.

Center depth isn't the problem here in Columbus; what's missing is a true #1C, and Dvorak doesn't solve that.

It's an extremely favorable price, tho.
