Description
No confidence in moving out from the rebuild.

Before even consider trading a 7th overall pick to shed 2 years of salary, consider the implications and all the options????

BUY HIM OUT. Take the dead cap for 4 years instead of losing you're only leverage to ACTUALLY improve the team. You have 25-30 million in un-used cap space next year.

My other fear, they really like a guy that's ranked way lower then where their pick is (McGroaty, Geekie). If they go off the board two years in a row... man... I'll be super angry 2 years from now.

he got too confident when his off the board jarventie pick turned out… okay I guess. There’s a reason there’s a board lol. Sometimes you’re the smartest one in the room, but most of the time the rest of the world is right, especially in the top 10, as anyone that could realistically go in that range gets scouted to death

Ya, he needs to go. I held out hope that it was Eugene's interference that was handicapping PDs ability to improve the team, but it's pretty obvious he just isn't an NHL GM

Coming from a team with a cheap owner sometimes the owner steps in the way of certain moves like a buy out. Unfortunate but I feel your pain

The draft is garbage when there's 5-6 legit prospects. This shows all you need to know about the confidence in teams picking outside the top5. Lists are all over the map

I mean the 1OA pick is all over the map, but you sstill have to value the 7OA pick very highly, not use it to shed 2 years of salary that YOU WERE GOING TO RETAIN ALREADY, like if it was for Buffalo's 9th, I would be like ok not bad, but this was for the 16thOA, a 9 position shift

Who is a cant miss at 7 OA? Lekkerimaki (Zadina lite) Savoie (5'9" center) when there are 5 in the league at that frame and effective.

Its not a worthwhile draft to be picking in that 7th-10th range. Ottawa was always better off trading the pick to meet their window not wait on a maybe in 3-4 years.

The other owner's been dead for several months and the daughters/board of governors/estate seem to be doing a better job of marketing the team properly along with negotiating a new rink. My issues stem from the GM side of things when it comes to asset management.

Off the board pick over JJ Perteka who tore it up in the AHL. Also best friend of TIm Stutzle?

    Joakim Kemell.

I like him but we'll see. I think trading up in this draft is a fools errand. So many prospects have dropped like Lambert from top 5 to maybe 2nd round. Korchinski came outta nowhere from a b prospect to a top10 pick.

It aint a great draft by any stretch

I agree with that. The draft isn't deep by any stretch but it's a waste of a cost controlled asset to trade it shed salary.

I mean Savoie may be a center, but I think he would be a winger in the league, and there are lot's of great short wingers (Debrincat and Caufield are examples), Kemell is another one Gauthier has the potential to be great, but that potential has lots of risks

Yes, cost control, definitely, but you are banking on promise, little is guaranteed. Most of these GMs are too scared to trade a top10 when the odds are you'll get better value through trade. Most of team building is about timing and your cap window.

For sure I heard about that but I am sure the daughters are being advised on what to do as well right.

It can also be viewed as a trading chip to actually improve the top 6 f or top4 d. You shoot yourself in the left foot whilst stapling your right hand if you package a top 10 pick to try and move a garbage contract when there are better options like saying you're confident in running 3 goalies only to bury him in the AHL or buying him out completely.
