The Island of Misfit toys Davidson stinks

Created by: SlickWilly
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 11, 2022
Published: Jul. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A list of unqualified players that I would like to see Davidson take a run at. Obviously not all will happen, but some of these guys could provide value to a rebuild or could thrive with more ice time and flip em for some 3rds at the deadline.

For the Kane trade, I figured a good price to settle on was a late first and an alright prospect, but that is not necessarily the point of this trade. (For assessment purposes, I used Scott Wheeler at the Athletics ranking, so dont flame me if its not accurate.) I gave them a 4th back because they would probably like to draft some players at some point.

Dont care about the Jones trade. Get literally anything for him and im happy. Saw a dumb rumor on twitter that probably isnt accurate that the Sens were interested so thats what this is based on.

Murphy trade, thought about it for a little bit. Murphy is a leader, not very expensive, not flashy, good underlying metrics, shut down guy. Canes dont have an established RD after Pesce if Bear leaves, and it sounds like the Canes dont want to pay Bear, so now u get Murphy who has term and experience for a late 2nd that could turn into a 1st if they win the cup. (In any case, I would have offersheeted Bear anyway).

Let me reiterate - trades are not the main focus here, mainly that the players will be gone at some point and im trying to gauge roster spots.

Bedard is a Towes replacement for the next 10+ years so that's an easy pick lol.
I would keep Jones unless someone offers up a 1st. just to kep the cap floor and gives a young team leadership for the next 4-5 years.
at this point no use in that large of a retention for a still quality player, in 6-7 years he will still be good and you will be a team on the rise.

Michkov is the projected #2 based on his KHL contract. His play he may be better than bedard. Depends on if they put him in the KHL this season, if he balls out in the KHL as a 17 year old he may have a serious case for 1 but won’t be taken there because of his contract and the fact he is a Russian.

Oh for sure theres a case to be made that hes the better player. But I dont want Putin putting a target on his back so he cant come over to the States, plus theres always the very real possibility that he just wants to stay in russia.

Thats fair. We've seen defensemen fall off sooner, although that doesnt necessarily hurt us. Id rather just open the roster spot for a younger defenseman. But thats definitely the least likely trade on here

there are 5 other spots on the roster! again only if someone offers a 1st zero retention. no need to trade him and a 2nd doesnt help you nearly as much as he does, plus 3.5 mil for 7 years is a lot of money for a 2nd.

From what I've seen, theyre looking for somewhere to dump him and nobody has wanted it for what theyre offering. Ultimately, I would agree, but I didnt want to think about it too hard so I just clicked the first. The trade returns werent supposed to be the main focus here

In 2019 Toronto paid Carolina a 1st and a 7th to get rid of Patrick Marleau's last year contract @ $6.25M

I almost guarantee they'll end up doing exactly that, although not the 2023 1st. Probably going to be the FLA 24 1st

Yeah but JVR is for more productive than Marleau. He still is a 20 goal scorer and I think teams would easily take him with a third to flip for more

I also think that Toronto was in a much more stable situation. Flyers, knowing they very well may miss the playoffs, might not want to risk the first because its not guaranteed they can sign Gaudreau. Thats also why i made it protected. Had to include a little thinking in my post!

I would be very sad if he wasnt able to come back. One of my favorite young players. As a Canes fan, what do you think of the concept of acquiring Murphy?

Honestly he is one the best options to acquire at RD he would be the cheapest to trade for and he is very serviceable. I like the term as well, reminds me of when they traded for Skjei. It would be a very tulsky/yorke move to make. You can tell which guys in the canes front office are calling the shots depending on the move. The canes best RHD options right now are Kling, Marino, murphy. There’s probably others out there like Barrie but I am talking about guys who have serious term as the most viable options because it is a canes move to get a guy with term. I like Marino and klingberg better personally but the murphy is a solid top 4D and I like him as an option.
