29 of 32 Fan Embarasses Himself as AGM

Created by: bluspy88
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2022
Published: Jul. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Think they circle back to Highmore at a cheaper deal. From what I've read, the Lockwood prospect could break camp. I went with him making it while the others I saw (Karlsson and Bains and Aman) are in the AHL since he made his debut this year. Reunite MoJo with BBQ Bruce. Honka from Canes breaks camp, but if he isn't in the trade/not ready, Poolman or Rathbone play.

Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Clarke, Graeme
  2. Hurtig, Viktor [Reserve List]
  3. 2023 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
I think they could get more or different pieces here, but they would be interested in a RHD depth (he will be playing a Michigan, good program) and a good 1st in a strong draft.
NJD
  1. Miller, J.T.
Additional Details:
Miller signs extension.
2.
VAN
  1. Honka, Anttoni [Reserve List]
  2. Lorentz, Steven [RFA Rights]
  3. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
  4. 2024 5th round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
I modeled this after the Toffoli trade (1st, 5th, roster player/fringe roster player, and well regarded prospect. Could probably go back and forth on the players. But I think the term, cost, and Garland's playstyle makes this attractive to Carolina. Instead of an older rental or FA like Tarasenko or Giroux, they get a tenaciously aggressive forward who just scored 19 goals and 52 points on the Canucks. Imagine what he does on Carolina!)

Scoring 52 points is obviously no small feat. I think the model of the trade is good tbh, hard to see the canes passing. My only problem is that you said he scored those 52 points on Vancouver, I mean miller just put up almost 100 on the nucks so I don’t think being on the Canuck’s inflates a players value.

Rathbone signed a one way deal so he’s gonna be given every opportunity to play this year. Also there’s absolutely no chance garland gets a better return than miller. Comparing garland to toffoli is actually a really good comparison contract wise and production wise so I’d agree with his return but there needs to be a lot more for miller especially if he comes with an extension

Devils and Hurricanes will say no to all these trades.

Devils starts with one of the best RD prospects in Mukhamadullin, Walsh, 2023 1st and a NHL ready player who has upside

Hurricanes start with Necas one for one swap although I'm not sure about Honka

Its a very good comparison but one is an offseason deal and one was a de facto TDL deal. Garland getting similar value to fiala is laughable.

Your whole valuation is skewed bc one was a deadline deal and one would be an offseason deal. The fiala mention was about using the right comps.

So you’re comparing one of garland or toffoli to fiala then?

No you cant be that dense. You would obviously have to adjust for the level of talent but trades like fiala debrincat reinhart and buchnevich set the market. None of those guys are perfect comparisons for garland but thats the market he would be in as opposed to toffoli who was traded in a completely different market (near the TDL).

If you’re so smart why’d you’ll fail to realize with the exception of Chicago and debrincat all the other cases you just made had to be moved due to the player publically wanting out or the team not having cap space to keep them which forces them to take what they can get at that time where as with garland Vancouver doesn’t have either meaning they can see what teams would pay and decide if they think it’s enough to move him. Therefore driving his price up because he’s locked in at a very reasonable contract long term which none of those players were at the time of the trades

Im not so smart. There are people much smarter than me that do this for a living, theyre called gms. They decide the value of players not you or me. I just look at what they do and try to compare other players to the ones that theyve defined the value of. You havent brought a single relevant comp to this conversation. So instead of getting your panties in a twist maybe add something of substance to this thread.

Wait what..? You’re the one who literally just used all those players as comparables to which I just told you why you’re wrong.

Yes no 2 players or situations are exactly alike but some are much more alike than others. Like it or not those 4 trades set the market for players like garland (26yo signed at a reasonable aav with decent term). His trade situation (contract, trade flexibility, and trade timing) are much closer to reinhart buch and fiala than toffoli.

As far as on ice players yes but all 3 of those players were traded as RFA’s that did not currently have a contract when they were dealt

Like I said, I think they can get more with Miller I'm just not as familiar with NJ's prospects
