Description
We know we're not using all of Backstrom's money as GM BMAC said so I think getting Varly is better than Kuemper, bc giving an old goalie term is not the best idea. secondly for the love of God I would love to sign Pitlick or Dalhen for the bottom 6 LW because we need speed and scoring down there and both of those guys are so much better than what we have internally. Lastly seems like every Caps fan including myseld wants Kulak

Lol jesus. Varlamov is not a cap dump. Did you see what Georgiev just got? Price starts at 2 2nd rounders. No retention

Varlamov isn’t getting two seconds but I agree he’s not a cap dump.

He probably should given what the Avs gave up for Darcy Kuemper. I’d trade Varly if I got a good return, but only if I could sign Samsanov to an affordable deal as a 1B. That was Soroky would still have a Russian goalie to hang out with and we would have a Russian d man too lol

This Should have been titled what I want realistically. I hope we trade Eller badly, But lavyy loves him and unless they have an Option like Malkin or Trocheck to replace him they won't get rid of him and have mcmichael and Lappiere as their middle 6 centers. Lavvy would play the kids 8 minutes a night last year. He could not handle 2 young centers I think hed quit before he had to play a young kid over 15 minutes a night haha

The Rags didn't need to trade him, he's younger and cheaper which is why he got that. Murray and Mrazek were camp dumps and Id say Varly at age 34 at 5 mil per is somewhere in between. I doubt Lou realizes it bc he should be put in a retirement home but I don't see how with the current 11 mil in space the Isles have they Sign Dobson & Romanov along with improving what was the 23rd-scoring offense last season.

Darcy Kuemper was 31 years old, with 1x$4.5M left on his deal, and was coming off a year that saw him put up a .907 SV% and 2.56 GAA in 27 games. Colorado gave up a 1st, a B-tier prospect, and threw in a 3rd for $1M in retention.

Semyon Varlamov is 34 years old, with 1x$5M left on his deal, and is coming off a year that saw him put up a .911 SV% and 2.91 GAA In 31 games. I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that Varlamov would command a similar package if the Islanders wanted to move him.

The Difference is/was Colorado needed a goalie there weren't any left in FA unlike how the caps can just sign Kuemper/Campbell now. The bigger reason why IMO is the Yotes didn't need to trade Dacry, they did to get assets for their rebuild. If the isles want to get better they need cap space and Varly takes up a big chunk of it, they had the 23rd-ranked offense last year and we know goalies do significantly better under Trotz/Korn, as a Caps fan i get. So again do the Isles want to keep a most likely sub 907 injury-prone goalie for 5 mil as their backup or use that to sign speed on offense? Also, Kuemper was 50% retained which the Isles can't afford to do. Looking back he probably isn't a negative asset like this trade says he is but I don't think his value is worth truly what his talent is given the jam the isles will be in similar to the Towes trade, Get rid of Lou

The difference, to me, is signing Kuemper is giving a 32 year old 6x$6M, and signing Campbell is probably giving a 30 year old with 142 career games under his belt 5x$5M. Varlamov is a one year deal at $5 for a guy who is a proven playoff performer and gives you a chance to play in next summer's goalie UFA class, which is shaping up to be much better than this year.
