On paper we just cleared up a crap ton of cap space. Maybe the market wasn’t as big as we thought.

thought we would get a better deal but overall I think a solid deal for SJ

Moving the big contracts is a must. Vlasic buy out next summer

Wonder what Dallas had on the table. My personal opinion in MG took whatever offer had the most cap space for SJ.

A little too much cap retention and not enough of a return (C-level-prospects and a 3rd), but overall glad with the decision to trade out Burns. I imagine Grier didn't have much leverage with only DAL CAR and a unrealistic destination (something like TB) as the only options.

It is. EK65 was not as moveable. And was actually way better this season. Albeit in a role that played to his strengths than burns. Vlasics buyout sucks. Depending on where we are. I could see is giving up captia for vlasic salary rather than a buyout.

I don't like it but since there's not really much cap coming back and the retention is moderate it shows Grier valued opening up cap more than anything else

It’s obviously a cap dumb. Whatever else you get is free captia. Will wonder what the dal offer looked like.

I think when it came down to picking who’s deal to take. I think they took whatever offer had more cap space.

It's awful to see Burnzie go, but it had to be done with our current cap situation. I do wish we had a 2nd pick instead of a 3rd, but he's 37 so it's understandable if this was as much as the Canes wanted to spend.

Make no mistake: despite what Grier says regarding the term "rebuild", this is exactly what he's doing now. This is likely not the last trade Sharks will conduct this week, and I am wondering if the team is asking Vlasic to retire after this season and Couture and Karlsson to waive their clauses to be moved. I wouldn't be surprised if this is happening behind the scenes and it'll be interesting to how else we'll clear out space and room for youngsters and cheaper players.

EK 65 is not moveable. 2-3 more years have to toll off that contract
