Opinion Thread - DeBrincat over Fiala

Created by: Calwin_Mars
Team: 2022-23 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 15, 2022
Published: Jul. 16, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Considering what OTT gave up for DeBrincat (1st, 2nd, 4th), would the Kings have been better off with that deal? Fiala has 124 goals in 419 games whilst DeBrincat has 160 goals in 368 games. Yes we may have had to give up more premium picks, but Alex has more of a track record as well (40 goal seasons) and is a career 15% shooter. Just my 2 cents

I mean, Ottawa absolutely fleecing Chicago is going to make any trade this season look bad.

But what's the actual trade offer?
I don't think

Faber
2024 3rd round pick
Beats what Ottawa offered, #7 vs #19 is a pretty big difference.

The difference between 7 and 19 is probably worth about Faber. I think the bigger picture for LA in addition to the lower cost is the 7 year contract certainty they got. Cat gets probably 2 mil a year more on his next deal.

I’m a Wild fan and absolutely admit Cat is a notch above Fiala but that trade worked really well for MIN and LAK.

I really like both Fiala and Debrincat. They’re both dynamic yet bring different skill set

Kings got their guy long term. OTT is rolling the dice on shorter term deals with hired guns. Kings made the better trade.

It is also pick #39 vs. #51.

The cap is definitely an issue though. With a $9m QO, Cat is probably looking for at least that much (assuming he doesn't take a step back by not playing with Kane)

Yeah. As @csick said, they’re both super dynamic offensive players with different skill sets. I think before it’s all said and done, Fiala will be on Byfield’s wing and that will be what unlocks them both. Gonna be absolutely flying out there.
