Reloaded and Ready to Go

Created by: WarrenB
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 18, 2022
Published: Jul. 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For the JT Miller trade, might need a first round pick as opposed to a second. In all seriousness - I doubt this happens - but its the move we should be trying to make.
For LA / Muzzin trade - might need a prospect instead of a pick...or maybe both! Not sure Jake waives his NTC - but this assumes he does to go home to a Kings team that is trending up - and that the Kings want him back. Again - all fantasy - but something we should be exploring.

Leaf fans bring this up to the Kings on the daily, there is nothing there.

We have no more cap space for Muzzin, Muzzin has a full NTC, and he is coming off a pretty poor season.

Instead of the 3rd round pick, add Knies.

1) Muzzin is negative value. 2) He'd have to waive a NTC. 3) LA doesn't have cap space. 4) LA doesn't want a 33 year old, injury prone defeneseman. There's more, but I'm tired of listing them.

It's infuriating reading these, and my post was originally much stronger worded. But since you've got so few posts, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Howeveer, as some constructive criticism, I'd suggest looking at the cap situations of teams you are trading to AT THE VERY LEAST before you just make random trades. Or looking at past trades involving the teams you're dealing with (in this case the ENDLESS number of Toronto ACGM's that have had Kings fans habitually saying this trade WILL NOT WORK.)

Muzzin to LA would be dumb (especially this one with Grundstrom), but he’s still a solid defender and does not have negative value, let alone negative enough value to where the Leafs have to add their top prospect lmao.

Sorry to break it to you, but when you need to offload cap so you can even play games, you have no leverage. Teams aren't going to pay for a guy who had significant injury issues and is in his mid-30's and has a nearly 6mil cap hit for two years.

Would it cost a first or Knies, probably not. But I'm just over all these Muzz to LA posts in general, and if me going heavily the OTHER way on the trade gets someone to open their eyes, then I'll go the other way with the trade.

Like many Toronto fans, you make the mistake of concluding that because Muzzin has value to the Maple Leafs, he must have the same value to other teams.

Muzzin is not a cap dump to Toronto because he fills the position of #2 LD quite well (at least, he did during the playoffs). In fact, I think you'll all be sorry if you do trade him because I'm not sure you're going to find someone better to replace him either internally or on the free agent market. But to Los Angeles, he has little value due to the Kings' cap situation, and to Anaheim (or other non-contending dumping grounds) he IS a cap dump because having him on the roster will have little immediate impact and no prospective impact for teams that are building for the future. A team like Arizona or Buffalo or Chicago is going to need an incentive to take on his massive cap hit for two seasons while missing the playoffs.
