I don’t think they’ll take 5 mill straight in cap. But I could see this looking more like Brannstrom + Formenton going the other way

Colorado has no use for draft picks at this point in their contention window. While Girard makes a TON of sense for Ott, I'm not sure Ott has anything that really makes sense for Colorado atm, which would have to be an NHL ready 2c that is cost controlled. Pinto isn't quite there.

Pinto would def not be moved for Girard. He’d be the 2C this year If they didn’t have a logjam. 100% nhl ready and elite defensively

@csick @meeqs I'd also argue that the difference between Romanov (traded for #13 OA) and Girard isn't a 2nd round pick. He'll be more expensive.

Depends on the kadri contract. If he comes in at 7 and a cheaper one year d contract, maybe butcher this could make some sense that way.

Highest I would go is Brannstrom/Formenton and a protected 1st

The Kadri contract is a lot more irrelevant to Girard than the average fan on here believes. In either circumstance though, Ott still doesn't have the assets that Col would be looking for.

Not too bad. Grieg instead of Formenton a deal breaker for you? And regardless of your answer to the first question, how protected are we talking? I think having a 2023 pick would be pretty important. Top 5? Top 10?

Oh man, a bust, a winger the Avs don't need that might be involved in a SA case and a 1st that does nothing for them? How could they say no?

Well they’ll only move him if they wanna clear cap space. So they’ll have to take minimal cap back.

Formenton-Newhook-Lehkonen would be one of the best 3rd lines in the league

If it's all three, then I could see it happening. Just two of those pieces? Then I'm probably out.

Sometimes its best to not post something and have the world guess that you don't know what you're talking about rather than to make a post that proves it

I would offer all 3 if you could convince me that Girard can play the right side well and isn’t soft defensively

No logical deal to be made with OTT from the Avs PoV. They simply don't have the pieces the Avs would want/need.

I mean, he was a norris contender for a reason in '20-'21. As for playing right side, it's obviously not his dominant side but he can play it well enough.

He was playing his off side most of that year, so he may be better on the right than the left.

Brannstrom, Grieg, 1st gets me thinking. Honestly though, I don't think they trade him at this time.

2C basically. That's why I don't see a logical fit.

I can’t see any team giving up a cost reasonable 2C for Girard

No, not one for one I agree. The deal would likely be larger but based around Girard for 2C with parts added. Taking Lindholm as an idea from another thread. Lindholm plus pick/prospect for Girard & Newhook (as Newhook would no longer be essential to retain) as an example if Calgary were to 'blow it up' and go into a rebuild (retool?). Both players they acquire would be young enough for that.

Not true, picks are very valuable and can be used for further trades!
