You keep your expectations low which I appreciate. I don’t love the Dufour to Clutterbuck comparison cause Cal is a better skater but he is a worse playmaker and doesn’t have the same offensive talent Dufour does.

With Holmstrom I get why you say he is a third line talent, but he kind of gives me Niederreiter vibes. Raty reminds me a lot of Kadri but idk which version of Kadri he reminds me of lol.

Raty is very similar to kadri but he has better puck skills

Hughes is a clown for asking for that. Lou shouldn’t have listened to him. But I could see Romanov breaking out in NY cause it’s going to be a very easy environment for him to play in. He’s young and he can skate. I can buy into that.

He’s gonna go from playing with Chiarot and savard (who both suck) to either Pulock or Dobson. It will also help Dobson because he won’t have to carry 40 YO defenseman anymore

I can see that for sure. I’m probably higher on Raty, Holmstrom and Dufour cause I think their skating is much better than reported. Holmstrom looked like he deserved to get nhl action in camp. He is a good skater. With Dufour I like that he plays in all 3 zones. I’m usually willing to buy into a kid like him cause he’s smart.

He’s also young enough that I think he will get more consistent anyway.

There are just so many players like Holmstrom who struggle to be anything more than a 3rd liner in the NHL. I agree he deserved a look, played well with chris terry last season.

Dufour is smart , I just worry he won’t be able to find the soft spots/create his own scoring chances in the NHL. He’s going to need someone to create space for him.

There’s this false narrative going around from isles fans that Wahlstrom struggles to get his shots off , but that is not true. He leads the isles in individual shots for per 60.

I didn’t like the trade because I wanted Nazar, but I could live with it because at least it wasn’t for some 30 year old on the decline

If they had moved from 13 to 26 I would’ve been a fan. I also liked the George pick so if he hits that makes it better.

Who would you have in place of poolman on the roster?

oh no one this year, he'd be scratched like you have him here. i could see him maybe replacing mayfield in the coming year assuming he doesn't get re-signed, but they could also just buy him out or bury him

That was my plan, he’s decent defensively. Just a bad contract. As long as he’s not a liability he can stay on the 3rd pair the following season

I thought that was a good pick as well. Another high floor high ceiling guy. In Lou’s 1st 2 drafts he was going for guys with low ceilings.

2020 3rd rd draft pick was one of the worst picks the isles have ever made. The kid is a defensive specialist in Sweden and he doesn’t even do that at an elite level. The guy wouldn’t even survive in the AHL

Someone else said it but turning the 3rd into a 2nd maybe makes it more palatable for the Canucks. I’d love it, but Vancouver is probably better off just holding onto Hoglander. Think we missed our opportunity sadly lol

Isles overpaid, but Romanov will be a solid 2nd pair D

Apparently isles checked in on Romanov earlier in the offseason and Hughes asked for “Beauvillier and multiple picks”

I think romanov rn is a solid #4 with #2 upside. I also love how his playstyle fits with dobsons. I really dont know how many players if any you would get at 13 whose value represents a guy who is already a 2nd pair guy with #2 upside. Theres no risk of him busting which adds a ton of value as well as the fact that we dont need to wait for him to develop as he will contribute right away. Add in the george pick (who truthfully i dont know much about but everyone all over the league seems to love) and i think its a pretty decent deal. I dont absolutely love it but i think it was a good deal.

I don’t know if I see #2 upside , but at the very least he’ll be a solid 2nd pair D who can compliment Dobson.

George has a high floor , at worst he’ll be a #5 defensive defenseman. Needs to work on being more aggressive offensively

I would have taken Nazar or Kemell over trading for Romanov, but is what it is

I actually think Rutherford would do this, it’s just Lamoriello isn’t creative enough to think of this. I don’t think he’s a bad GM, but man I can’t wait till he gets fired and hopefully the isles owners bring in someone more progressive
