Canucks get Royded Up

Created by: SammyB
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 28, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
NSH - This follows a template I've seen lot of Nashville ACGMs use. I like it for both teams.

LAK - The Kings need to shed cap, and they have a few on-the-cusp RHD prospects, making Roy expendable. Hoglander didn't seem to fit under Bruce's system last season, a fresh start might be best for him. Picks are to even out value.

WSH - The Capitals need a backup goalie, and DiPietro is now stuck behind Martin on the Canucks' depth chart.

OTT - I have no idea what Myers' value is. I've seen reports saying the Canucks want a 2nd round pick for him, and others saying they'll have to pay a 2nd to get rid of his contract. I split the difference and traded him for nothing. Ottawa has the cap space needed to take him, and could use a top four RHD. He can hold down a spot as JBD and Thompson develop, then his contract will be up by the time they're ready.

I don’t think LAK gives u a pick in that deal. It’s not unfair in terms of talent but you rarely see a 21 year old forward traded for a 27 year old veteran defenseman.

Fair enough. I don't really care about the picks, it's just tough to trade Hoglander given his potential. I've probably got a bit of homer bias though.

Hogslander is a middle six guy imo. Don’t get over attached to a dude who may just be a worse version of Beauvillier. It’s not worth it being over invested in regular Beauvillier lol.

Roy isn’t getting moved, the Kings will be able to fit Durzi and Anderson with the remaining cap space. If they have to pay more the loss will be: Andersson, Walker, JAD, etc.

With being weak on the left side, Roy has almost no chance of being traded this season

Yeah but If ur moving someone that young you should be targeting another similarly aged player

Really they just need to add Carson Soucy and their defense will be really good lol. They only need one more lefty anyway and Soucy does everything they need at a very cheap price.

I can see Myers as a stop gap RD to pair with Sanderson much like Hamonic was brought in to do.
the issue is the cap hit, while the Sens could take it this season, the following season extensions are needed for Debrincat and Stuzlte, so that $6 mill cap hit becomes harder to handle, even if you move out Zaitsev contract.

Roy is unlikely to be moved in general but in particular for a young left-shot forward. Kings are okay with having a RHD on the left (likely Walker). Kings probably would only move Roy for a superior defensemen who plays on the left and would probably try to trade Walker first. Kings are likely to resign Durzi/Anderson to 1 year deals with a combined cap hit between 3.5-4AAV.

Matt Roy is exactly the right player at exactly the right price and term at exactly the right position, and we don't have an internal replacement for him, in contrast to Walker/Durzi/Spence, each of whom can replace the others. We won't be trading him at all, let alone for a prospect who would be third on our depth chart of LWs not yet in the NHL.
