i take dubas job

Created by: yeoyeo
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 1, 2022
Published: Aug. 1, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Curious if some of my trades were too one-sided, or if my signings for too little or too much. Let me know, I appreciate constructive criticism.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Yamamoto, Kailer [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
This trade would only happen if the Oilers were sure they wouldn't be able to resign Yamamoto. Leafs need to dump some cap space, and the Oilers need defense. Although Muzzin had a rather rough year last year, with injuries and such, he proved himself and played great in the playoffs this year.
EDM
  1. Muzzin, Jake
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Not sure if a 1st might be needed here, let me know in the comments! Either way, it doesn't affect the starting lineup.
2.
TOR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
A decent, slightly overpaid (especially in Toronto) player whose one-year contract will not be a burden to the Ducks, and they could probably flip him for more than a 2nd come the trade deadline.
ANA
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
cap dump
3.
TOR
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
A 3rd might be too much, but the guy is only paid 2 mil and could be a good fit with the right pairing.
LAK
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. 2023 5th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Leafs fans HATE this guy. Although I don't mind Holl and believe he gets way too much hate, with Muzzin gone it just feels right to send him off as well.

Congratulations, you are the 80th person to say Holl to LA, a team with 6 right-shot defensemen who could make the team and zero cap space.

Please now say "it could be any team" to complete this post.

Unless you take Verbeeks job too the Ducks aren’t going anywhere near that.

As you say Kerfoot is a cap dump

Cap dumps aren’t worth second round picks, cap dumps take draft picks to move out

Welcome to CapFriendly! Sometimes, it's not too friendly.

Los Angeles has RhDs Drew Doughty, Matt Roy and Sean Walker under contract, and RFA Sean Durzi to re-sign, with Jordan Spence having impressed in his audition last season, so the Kings are just about the last team in the NHL that needs a good depth RhD. And then there's the problem of the cap situation: the Kings have about $3.9 million in actual cap space (depending upon how the roster shakes out at training camp) and Mikey Anderson and the aforementioned Durzi still to re-sign.

Not necessarily, it depends on the cap hit, the value of the player, and his value to the new team. Bjorkstrand was a cap dump and he got a 3rd and 4th. Kerfoot would be in the same boat in terms of a low-cap hit and having value. What he returns in a market like this? I wouldn't know

None of these trades really make too much sense for the receiving team, especially for the Oilers to trade Yamamoto, when they already got Puljujarvi that they need to move on from in their top 6. Taking on Muzzin's contract is a luxury they can't afford assuming that he were to be healthy, there is a question around his health to be asked, so there is no reason for them to take the risk at all. They might trade Barrie for cap flexibility and he's like a mil cheaper. The LA trade has been discussed a lot already. The Anaheim one is probably not at all enticing for Anaheim as they don't need a 1C, 2C, or 3C, and they can just sign anyone for the wings if they still need someone, so that they can save their cap for more valuable trades.

From the Leafs' perspective, I think the defense is weaker after replacing Muzzin with Subban if one of Sandin or Liljegren don't take major strides, and all that was done was bring in Yamamoto who will probably do just as much as Kerfoot or less, maybe a bit more.

Oilers can't afford Muzzin's cap hit.

Lol, I'll take that into consideration. Thanks
