No from Winnipeg. I see you're adding the first as compensation for dumping Monahan, but Zary isn't close to getting a PPG 1C on a great contract, without a large add.

Winnipeg also doesn't have the cap space to throw away on Monahan.

It’s basically a cap neutral trade so I have no idea why you think you don’t have cap space

The issue is that with what we’ve seen as of recent, cap space is worth a ridiculous amount. Pacioretty got dealt with coghlan for nothing and he has a lot more value than monahan. Teams are asking for picks/prospects to take on salary.

Flames need to add here a bit.

Can we stop comparing everyone to Vegas? We aren’t Vegas or even close to it. We have cap space

The issue is that Scheifele is fantastic, useful cap space, while Monahan is worthless cap space. That's why I'm saying the Jets don't have an extra 6+ mil to waste on a contract.

Not Vegas but still not enough in terms of trade value. WPG won't have a 1 or 2C in two years time after that trade, so they would want another top C prospect along with Zary at the very least. 6m is also a large cap hit and for a player that was injured/underperforming, he's going to require a sweetener to move.

Flames don't need to trade make any trades at this time except maybe losing a defender. Seeing what Monahan can do healthy is their best option at this time, they can always add during the season.

Sending Monahan to a team for free should be enough. Lucic is a cap dump, Monahon is not. If a team won’t take him without payment then I’m with you I’d rather keep him

If his cap hit was smaller or if he wasn't coming off a major surgery (even if the expectation is that he would be better healthy vs playing through pain), then taking him for free would be enough to move him.

Listen I totally get it. You have cap space. You’re not vegas. But cap space is at a premium right now. Pacioretty got moved for nothing with a sweetener. Nemeth had a 2nd and a 3rd attached to him at 2.5m aav to dump. It’s not cheap to move cap.

Monahan has 1 year left which helps out his value a bit. But it’s still not going to cost you nothing to move him. That was my only point.

Personally, I love the trade but I do think CGY needs to add more. Even keeping Zary and adding Dube and Valimaki since Monahan is such a wild card. Helps with the cap that CGY would need to shed as well and gives WPG some decent young players for teh future if Mony doesn't work out or continues to digress.

to WPG: Dube, Valimaki, Monahan, 1st, mid-Prospect
to CGY: Scheifele, low-Prospect

I’m willing to do that. I just will not sell Monahan away with a 2nd rounder like he’s Lucic or Hornqvist

That's not how that works but I understand why it may not be enough for you
