Dubas Masterplan

Created by: Stavros99
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2022
Published: Aug. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Kane with Matthews would be unreal. Chicago would be limited in trade options and Leafs would have to be near or at the top of Kane's wish list.

Dubas has shown an ability in identifying players who for whatever reason underachieved while showing glimpses of their potential and signs of trending upwards. Last year it was Bunting, maybe this year its Gaudette. If Gaudette falters, Knies is waiting in the wings for the latter part of the season.

Curtis Douglas might be a hail mary to break through this season, but man would he ever fit in great and add a unique physical presence to this lineup.

I agree. Its Cup or bust with a trade like this. But man would it be fun to see Kane with the Leafs. I also think Murray and/or Samsonov are gonna surprise people and end up one of the better tandems in the league. You can revisit this come December lol

No reason to think that Kane with Matthews would be much different than Marner with Matthews, could be better, could be worse but it's probably more or less going to be the same. Would still be nice to see if the price isn't too steep.

Kerfoot might work for the Jets, but he's not worth giving up a 2nd for.

The words Dubas and master-plan do not belong in the same sentence. But it definitely seems like a Dubas move to use up even more capital to trade for an offensive player. The Leafs would crush the regular season and be bounced again in round 1 because of their substandard defense instead of addressing their defense yet again.

Are you factoring in that the Leafs max cap this season is 82,287,500 due to carryover performance bonus's from last season? That 212,500 number counts against your cap ceiling.

Perhaps not better but different in the sense Kane is an elite finisher and thus may open things up for Mathews a little more. Would be fun to watch that's for sure.

Yeah, that's what could make it better since he's so much more of a scoring threat than Marner who isn't really (maybe now that he scored over 30 teams might see him more of a scoring threat)

You guys even read the team explanation? Dubas has succeeded with guys like Galchenyuk and Bunting in the past and Gaudettte could be another feather under his cap especially with those linemates. I agree it is a definite reach but worth the try and if it goes to the dumps, you have others that can fill that spot. You don't need an elite player to fill that 1LW slot, any 2-way, strong forechecking winger with some offensive instincts would complement that role.

CapFriendly has already factored that in for us. Total cap hit includes those overages..

Substandard defense? Are you for real? This is probably the best dcore we've had in the modern era bud.
