Description

With Pacioretty on LTIR for a least half a season, probably longer, is Kerfoot a good fit for Carolina. Cap seems to be OK for Carolina and Leafs need cap space. Kerfoot is worth his 3.5m X 1 year. deal. Handy guy, but does have trouble "finishing"

He doesn't replace him, but he's a great depth add for them. And a pretty good expiring contact with decent talent

I am not the biggest fan of kerfoot but at that price, I could see it. Canes would have to do some cap gymnastics to make it work tho.

Patches to LTIR is all that's needed. He's gone till FEB.

The thing is, patches was brought in to be the “finisher”. That was the canes biggest need and he was the fix. Not sure if Kerfoot is the guy to replace him for that reason

But what about March and April? It’s not like the salary cap doesn’t count then. Only when they playoffs come. That’s why I am weary of a kerfoot move.

but every day the savings increase. That's why deadline space is higher that current cap. And Kerfoots cap is half of Patches

Again, it’s not about what they are paying kerfoot, it’s about what he counts against the salary cap. If you bring kerfoot in, you only have to pay 750k. Much less than his cap hit. You save money sure but it’s the cap space that is what really matters.

I’m pretty sure the caphit is a flat rate. If you acquire a player at the TDL, I don’t think he is cheaper against the salary cap although you don’t pay them as much. If you have some literature that says otherwise I would be open to exploring it more.

He’s younger and I think he has a lot of potential. That is why I’d do a Kerfoot for Bear swap. But Kerfoot is absolutely better right now, I agree, and it isn’t really debatable (though to be fair, it’s comparing a f to a d so not apples to apples).
