Moving Money to Get Future Assets

Created by: EmilieCastonguay
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 10, 2022
Published: Aug. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1.) DAL-VAN: Dickinson goes home to DAL essentially as future considerations. DAL generously gives a '23 6th for the acquisition of Mike DiPietro.

2.) PHI-VAN: The trade is really JT Miller (50% retained) for Attard (future RHD) and Frost ('23-24 3rd line C). VAN offers to take on Van Riemsdyk so PHI includes their '23 1st. Because it is Chuck Fletcher, it will be unprotected. Also because it is Chuck Fletcher, he will extend Miller to the leaked Kadri deal (7 x $7.25M).

3.) OTT-VAN: Garland goes to OTT for Jacob Bernard-Docker, Austin Watson and a '23 2nd. VAN sends Poolman along with '23 and '24 4ths as sweeteners for taking on the next 2 seasons at $2.5M

In fairness, I understand that Robertson (love that guy) and Oettinger have to be signed. What do you think they will re-up for in Dallas?

Combined, I'm expecting a minimum of $10.5M. I'm expecting a $4M AAV contract for Oettinger and at least $6.5M for Robertson if he takes a bridge deal. If Robertson gets a full 8-year deal, you're looking at roughly another $1.5M for him.

Dallas has the space for both scenarios above, but if Robertson takes a long-term deal at a higher cap hit, they'll have to make a small move or two in order to make it happen, and that's assuming they don't take on any additional cap space.

No reason for the Flyers to do that, but the value is reasonable.

Poolman's deal is terrible, and should be a nonstarter for Ottawa.

I give you, Exhibit A: Travis Hamonic - who the Sens *paid* a '22 3rd round pick for @ $3.0 + one more season. VAN is doing OTT a favour by adding the '23 and '24 4th rounders

Teams don't want to add iffy cap when they have their players to pay soon. Flyers or no team are risking a lottery pick for one year of Miller. (and no silliness with extension talk)

I agree that on the surface there is no valid reason for the Flyers to do that. But then again, Chuck Fletcher actually extended Rasmus Ristolainen @ $5.1 x 5 *AND* signed Torts as his Head Coach. Chuck be Crazy!

Umm.. The Flyers thought Rasmus Ristolainen was worthy of a $5.1M x 5 year extension - just because he is tall and a RHD. Chuck Fletcher don't care what Flyers fans think about what constitutes good value.
