I think that you're optimistic on Jake Muzzin's trade value. Connor Murphy is a top-4 defenseman (after all, that's where you're going to play him) on a four-year contract term at a very reasonable cap hit, so his value alone is a current-year second-round draft pick and an A prospect, at least. And Chicago isn't going to take on Muzzin's massive cap hit without a convincing incentive on top of that.

Wow Muzzin waived to go to a tanking team when he had all leverage, that’s good luck for the leafs.

Ya i agree
so i boosted up the return for Murphy
and i think hawks would flip muzzin at deadline for something good if they retain some salary
it may work this way

Disagree. I think this is an overpay. Muzzin is not as terrible as people make him out to be and is paid like 6 million over the next two years. Yes he has a bigger cap hit, but not crazy

Muzzin has also been a significantly better defenseman than Murphy until last year. Yes he had a bad year and is older but the negative value people think he has is crazy.

By your description SDA plus a third is likely a second. Niemela is a top prospect. So that's Murphy. I would not trade a first to move muzzin.

Muzzin was 31 had a 4mx2 hit when he was acquired for a 1st+Grunderstrom+Durzi, I don't think either were considered an A-prospect. Murphy is 2-years younger and has double the term, Muzzin does have value and the cap hits aren't too far, and in terms of salary Muzzin is owed less (even tho money isn't an issue for CHI unless the owner wanted it to be), he also still has value. So, a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is more than fair for Murphy with Muzzin and no favors, a 1st+ two 2nds for the cap difference is probably all it would take at most, not an A-prospect (definitely not one who is 21 or under or one who would be a premium asset-even though Murphy is a RHD).

Cap space is at a premium though so I could see someone like Robertson+Muzzin+a 1st for Murphy happen but only because Robertson has had snags with his development because of injury (and he's undersized which could drop his value since he's still a borderline NHLer).

You're both looking at the trade as amended (see the OP's Comment #3). But that's not the trade on which I was commenting. Originally (i.e., when I replied), the offer was Muzzin and a 2024 second for Murphy.

I figured the trade was ammended, but I was saying an A-level prospect may be included but it wouldn't be necessary (perhaps a 1st+ two 2nds suffices) and you said it would take at least a 1st+2nd+A-level prospect for Murphy straight up. That would likely be the ask but doesn't mean they could get more or that he is worth that.
