I'm high on Fehervary and think he'll be better than Girard in a couple of years, so I'd say no to this trade. But it's a creative idea.

I like Fehervary too, but I also think the Caps could use a player like Girard right now. Gustafsson will find his way out of the lineup like he usually does.

Fehervary is going to be a good defenseman.

Kudos to being an Avs fan who actually makes an AGM and not just sit back and take pot shots

When? Does he crack the Avs top 4 in the next 4 years? You do realize he is only barely a year younger than Girard.

He could be a Toews replacement in the next 4 years. Same with Girard but cheaper

There are parts of this I like a lot. I like Girard's fit on the caps' blue line. I like Eller to COL as a 1 year stopgap that gives them a good player now while giving the flexibility when MacKinnon needs an extension.

However, there's enough here that I don't like that I think would put the Caps off. Girard was very good the 2 years prior, but this past regular season and playoffs he was pretty mediocre and had some big injury questions. Bowers at this point is nothing -- a bad AHL player. Sending away a 2025 second rounder would be extremely risky given the team's current window. Most importantly, Girard would be seen as an Orlov replacement -- they would have trouble finding the cap room for both Girard and Orlov after this year when either Backstrom returns or they have massive changes in the forward group. It makes more sense then for a trade to 1) happen next summer and 2) not include Fehervary, who they need on his cheap role to fill the other top 4LD spot.

Finally, while COL has won a cup off of the market inefficiency of how teams value smaller defenseman who don't score much, that inefficiency still exists and Girard is still a small defenseman who doesn't put up big point totals. Correctly or incorrectly, I think the Caps would view Fehervary + a 2nd as much too high a price.
